yesterday I was at the video store and a guy from the new ace hardware saw my truck and walked over, caught me in the parkinglot. told me that they are a new stihl dealership, going to sell and service the full line and will stock parts. OK, sounds good says I, the shop about 10 minutes away isn't worth blowing up and the dealer I use is an hour drive one way, away.
he says the stihl carvers will be there next weekend (yuk, saw them at the bunyon show, not impressed)

will probably stop in and look around, but I have a repore with the hour away dealer, and he gives me deals within reason, and is overall extreemely knowledgeable and wiling to talk saws. but a stihl shop that I can stand to walk into that is 5 minutes from my house is not a bad thing either.

so, overall, I guess we'll see. hope and think they'll do well. everyone I work for tells me they wouldn't go to the 10 minutes away shop for toilet paper, much less a saw. the other shop had a great tech that they jerked around until he quit and went to the new local husky shop, last I heard from him the husky shop had a new guy they were wanting him to train, and he wasn't loving that idea of training his own replacement, have a feeling he's probably over there at the new stihl shop now, I know his truck, so that's easy to see if that change was made or not.
well, overall, I guess I have a "we'll see" attitude.
I did give him the addy of this site though... wonder if they'll visit?

If you can establish the same rapport with the new dealer and save yourself two hours of driving, that'd be good everyone involved. You might casually drop hints to the new dealer about the wonderful relationship you had with the other dealer. This can motivate the new dealer to want to "steal" you away.

Same thing here

I was driving by local strip mall area and noticed a very large Stihl sign on the Ace hardware only 5 minutes from work. Called them up, faxed my part order for the 056 and they gave me a call back in 3 days. So convienent. Not sure I would use them for service being so new but maybe they will be fine.

Anyone want to loan me an extra saw so I can try their service

I just got a new one too. Seem okay, they are a branch of a big dealer on the other side of town. Need to order some parts today or Monday, their pricing is at retail, which is a good thing, and no freight charges when I have to wait for it on their regular shipment. I'm good with that.

Hope yours works out well. If it's only parts you need fast, I never walk into a place without a printed IPL sheet showing what I want anyway.

A new Dolmar dealer has been advertising in the local paper so I stopped in for a visit. I guess Dolmar does not care if they sell saws. He has a 12x12 shed, 1-5100 and no parts ( not even spark plugs or chains). He said he could get parts for me if I pay for the shipping cost of his order and also said he may expand if he gets busy. Well he won't get busy from me. I have six Dolmars and will keep driving an hour to the next shop.

Business can never grow without customers

The existing wonderful shop owners had to start out once to. So give the new guys atleast one shot after they get up and going.
The Dolmar dealer here in town bought a pretty big lineup of saws and product before he hung up his sign. Granted he does not carry a lot of parts.. But hey he had to start somewhere.
Give a new guy a chance. swing in and buy some Oil from him. Talk with him mention your needs.

Some of the Ace stores turn out to be decent dealers, but others suck. Our local Ace calls our tech with questions periodically.

I've not had a chance to see their work....I looked on Stihl's site but found nothing.

It's not that they don't do good work, they do well enough, it's just that that carving stuff is too slow and mundane for me. I need a little more action. it gets boring pretty quickly for me.

I will be stopping in for a few things and to look around and see some new stihls with pull-on AV springs.
