Hi Guys,
New to the forum, so far I am really impressed with the great amount of knowledge available on this forum.
I recently purchased a used Stihl 028 WB and aside from a busted chain brake and a supposed chain/bar oil leak (I haven't seen it leak yet) the saw is in great shape.
I filled it up with fresh mix, chain/bar oil and put a new Bosch WSR6F plug in it and fired it up. Well good new is it started up, but it won't stay running. It stalls if you let off of the gas. To start off it will run at high RPMs, but after a short time it starts to bog down at full throttle. I haven't adjusted the carb yet, but am going to set it stock setting and go from there.
My second question is regarding figuring out the age of the saw. I found the serial number and was wondering there was anything I could do with that to find out its age.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Lakeside and a few others here will be along sometime soon to help you out with your throttle problems and your age questions. Good luck and welcome to the site.

Thanks,
I just went out and reset the carb and fired that mother up, a little fine tuning and she runs like a song. So now I need to head out to the farm and cut. We'll she how things are after I put a few tanks through her.

Go online to Stihl, give them your saw and serial number, they will email you back in a day or so and tell you when it was manufactured. If the first number is a 1 it was made in Germany, if the first number is a 2 it was made in the States.
