Hey everyone, I just found this website and spent hours soaking up all the great info. This site is AWESOME! About 2 weeks ago I was using my chainsaw cleaning up some small trees and it died on me and wouldn't start.
Initially I thougt it was a fuel problem since I kept pulling the string and never smelled a drop of gas, so I bought a piston ring set and got it installed. It's now got great fuel to the cylinder! If I cycle the engine with the spark plug removed it'll purge fuel from the hole. Unfortunately it's also not getting any spark. I can hold the plug and pull the string all day and not get any type of tingle.
I read several posts addressing this with my favorite being "http://www.arboristsite.com/showthre...t=44651&page=2" where Lakeside 53 posted some great exerts from the 041 manual! On page 43 the manual states Ohmmeter should read .4 to .5 (X1 Ohm) across the primary wire from armature plate. When I did this test my meter registered .8 When I ohmed out the secondary winding I got a 2.8 reading (x1000 Ohm) which was within the 2.7 ~ 3.3 range in the manual. With all this being said, I think it's safe to assume the armature is deceased based on the .8 reading across the primary :-(
Does anyone out there know of a good place to get a replacement part (or part number to start searching e-bay). I did an inital search for Stihl 041 +armature and found nothing. I was also hoping for any price estimates. I really can't afford to dump a lot into this thing right now.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. This saw is a family heirloom.
THANKS!
