Hello,

I purchased a close out ms440 arctic from a dealer that was a showroom model. He said it had not been started. I have not started the saw. It is the arctic version with heated handles. Would not come with warranty as I am not a dealer. My local dealer quoted me 849.00 plus tax for the same saw.

I can send photo's upon request.

780 (us) shipped/insured to anywhere in lower 48 us states.

Tom

call your dealer and get a price for the ms440 arctic w 20" bar. My dealer is 849.00 plus tax. save yourself over 100 bucks and buy this one. ms440's only get 90 day warranty either way. satisfaction is guaranteed on this one, it's brand new.

Tom

Just bought a ms 440 24" new for $600 otd. I am not a pro so I believe the warranty is longer. I wouldnt actually mind a arctic if it where not for the added weight and if what you say is correct the added expense. INcidently does the arctic come with the alloy fan housing block off panel?

That's a good price for an 044/440, I have bought two and my dealer charges $649.00 for a 20" bar included. The warranty on the 044/440 and bigger stihl saws is only 90 days, regardless of consumer or pro buyer, unless my dealer is lieing to me, and now it seems he may be over charging me.

Thompson, what part of Minnesota are you in? The non-arctic
price of 649 seems a little high. One thing I have noticed on the West side of the Twin Cities, there is no rhyme or reason as to the Stihl pricing between dealers. I've seen 440's w/20" as high
as 689, and as low as 609. That Arctic price seems probably 50
to 100 bucks high, the differential on the Stihl heated's Vs. the
Husky heated's may be different though. I hope the dealer isn't
going under. My closest one is on their last legs. I just bought
a 440, otherwise I'd probably want to talk turkey.

I live in St Paul....these prices are from a large St Paul dealership. I don't think they are going under. The saw was bought from a different dealership that is getting out of selling Stihl saws.

Just saw the Arctic 440 advertised in "sawmill and woodlot management" for $719.00 w/ 21 inch bar. It appeared in the "new products" section

Your butt must hurt twice as much when you discover you've been bending over all this time.:p

saw that too, that was the standard ms440 price and said arctic version also available. Thought Stihl prices couldn't be in magazines or online, but that's MSRP so I guess it can be.

Ben, that sounds about right as i can get a new MS440 w/20'' bar and chain for $600 OTD.

You guys gotta start posting the names and phone numbers of these dealers, because they are WAY under any dealer in this area. 650 otd for a ms440 in this area is the best you will find. The 849 for an arctic is from the biggest dealer with the best prices in the area.

We need to know what dealers will sell for because most are not willing to negotiate price down very much off msrp.

Tom,
the dealer I've dealt with the most is in Buffalo, and they're on
their way down the road, much to my chagrin. He always had
440's at $619.95 w/20", that meant twenty dollars haggle room.
He never had a problem moving 440's. It was everything else.
I think the dealer you're talking about is TCS if I'm not mistaken.
Whenever I called over to the East side, the prices seemed much
higher. It must be a stupid Mpls./St. Paul thing again. Most of the
dealers on the West side seem more than happy to wiggle,
especially these days.

Scott

You are correct about Twin City Saw (TCS) and by the way, they do know me I've purchased 3 saws from this year and these are the prices they give to everyone I see or hear walk through the door.

Tom

D@mn Tom,
Are the dealers kinda thin on the East side? I must admit I'm
not familiar with what goes on on the other side of the river.
If you're buying no less than three saws a year, you should be
getting Carte Blanche from TCS. If they're telling you that they're
giving you the best pricing, I'd say show me what everyone
else is paying, and bargain accordingly. From what I gather you
walked out with four saws, at that level, you should have been
given at least ten percent off of sale price, hopefully not at
Stihl factory MSRP. The dealers have to make it, but in volume,
the discount should be there. It is after all, close out merchandise.

Scott

Tom,

Sorry, I thought you had purchased more than one. Disregard.
The price is still tough, I'd still haggle.

The highest priced dealer in our area starts at $649 on the 440 (non Artic). I never tried to negiate so I do not know where he would end up at.

I had a guy tell me a few weeks ago that this same dealer priced a 045 to him at $1400. I knew he was an idiot when he said 045 but the $1400 really showed it. I politely asked if he was referring to a 046/460 as the 045 had not been made in years. He was confused and said yes it was a 046. I went on to tell him that the dealer should not have a single saw that runs $1400 including the 088. I told him that I thought the starting price of the 460 was about $750. He thought I was full of sh_t and left. I stopped by the dealer a week or so later and low and behold the 460 had a price sticker of $749.99 on it.

The saw price that has my interest is the guys that say they can buy new 066's for under $600. Now that is a good deal.

Just my random thoughts

Bill
