new oil ratio in old Poulan K-100

Hello To All, My old Poulan K-100 recommends 16:1 gas/oil mix using back in the day 30 wt. motor oil. If I use todays modern 2 stroke oils should I still use that 16:1 ratio? Should I always stick with 16:1 and use non-detergent 30 wt? I put some 2 stroke oil(modern day oil) at 16:1 and new gas in it today and it sure does smoke a lot. Anyone have any thoughts on this subject? I sure do not want to be guessing too much on this.

I'm in the same boat with my Poulan 245 - calls for 16:1, 30wt. I rebuilt it this past summer, so my plan during break-in is:

• 1st gallon of fuel - 4oz. of synthetic plus 2oz. of 30wt. This gets me to 20ish:1.
• 2nd gallon of fuel - 4oz. of synthetic plus 1 oz. of 30wt. Gets me to 24ish:1.
• 3rd gallon of fuel - 5oz. of synthetic.
• After that, the same 32:1 synthetic mix that I run in all of my 2-smoke equipment.

I'm almost finished with gallon #1.

We run 50:1 in all the 2 stroke stuff. Haven't lost an engine from not enough oil yet.

46 Poulan...I'm over in Douglas so we not far apart. I went thru Albany a few days after Hurricane Michael passed thru there. WOW!!!!! There were lots of beautiful trees down as you know. I will try to get pics posted of my 4 saws. I got 2 bows and 2 small bars. None of it is new. Got a 910 Jonsereds bow and 2 small red Homelite bars. Angling on more bows here in Coffee County but not sure if I can score them. Thanks for the shout out from you. And Thanks to all you that responded to my question.........I think 40:1 it will be for my K-100 Poulan.
