My old saw finally is getting tired, and I am in the market for a new one. I want a lot of comfort in the saw, because the old one's handle vibrated a lot. I want something that has plenty of power for a 20" bar that wont bog down when all of it is in a big trunk. I ran a husky 55 and found it to be very comfortable and quick, but I think could use a bit more power. I am also considering a stihl 036 pro, echo or another husky. Any opinions from people who have owned or used any of these?

Gert your hands on the new CS-510 from "ECHO" and I think you'll be suprised.I know most of what you see and hear on these pages are husky and stihl and they are good saws however some of the new technolagy from echo should be considerd.Besides the saw now has a great price at $349.99 with a 20" bar and chain.

If you are in the market for a new saw, the first question you need to answer is how much do you want to spend. From there, you decide which saw can you buy that will suit your needs and your budget. I would suggest staying away from the consumer saws, even the ones made by Stihl (025, 029, 031, 039 etc). Sounds like you need something in the 4 Hp range. The Echo CS-510 is priced right, but Echo doesn't advertise their Hp, so unless you could demo one or talk to someone who has compared one side by side with other saws, I'd be a little leary. To get a Husky in that size range (359 3.9Hp, 261 4.2Hp 357XP 4.4Hp, 365 4.6Hp, 362xp 4.6Hp) you are looking at $400-500. The Stihl 036 (4.4Hp)is a great saw, and you could pick one up for a little over $500. If you are willing to sacrifice brand name and still get a quality saw, I would definitely look at the new John Deere (EFCO Made) Saws. The CS-56 (4.1Hp) is just over $300, and the CS-62 (4.7Hp) is just over $400. These saws are good quality, but may lack a little in user friendliness (no side chain tensioner, outboard clutch, no master control lever, no easy off filter cover). They do have magnesium crankcases, carb primers bulbs, decompression valves, and centrifugal air cleaning. Otherwise, some good used pro saws, or sometimes new saws, can be found on ebay for good prices, but buyer beware!

look at the 357 xp before you buy (57 cc 4.4 bhp). there are several on this list that can give you an excellent price.

value

I will side in with Tonym on the EFCO/John Deere saws. The represent a very good value. The CS56/956 saw will pull a 20 inch bar .325 pitch very well. The CS62/962 will do the same with 3/8 chain. These are more ruggedly built saws than the Husky 55.(Don't get me wrong here, I like Huskys.

They are built like full pro saws, and at a good price. John Deere made a good choice this time. They will have as good or better saws as they did when they had green Echos.

You should be able to buy the 56cc saw for about $350, and the 62cc for a little over $400.

Hello,
I would take a good look at the Jonsered Saws!!! I bought a used 2050 on ebay and find it a very nice saw. The power is much smoother than the Stihls that I own and it cuts with much less vibrations. Check them out!!

Rick,
I'm assuming the Echo CS-510 is a 51cc model??? I don't think I could, in good faith, endorse an Echo (besides the bucket saws) for a Pro application. Especially at $350!. There are many, many better choices if that kind of $ is going to be spent. Chrome plated cylinders are for the $125 junk homeowner Poulans. Not a fan of 2-pices cranks either, to much vibe. Unless Echo has made radical engineering changes recently, they're still a homeowner saw in my litte opinion.

For comfort Husky all the way! A real people saw, 359 or 357XP.

Well seesaw I do beleive that "ECHO" has made many changes in their saws and throughout the whole "ECHO" line !! If you haven't checked them out lately maybe you ought to.I personally have sold these saws and many of the CS-4400'S and have commercial users with a thousand or more hours on these saws and still going very strong.Of course I also have customers that don't take care of their equipment and NOTHING lasts.

Thanks a lot for your help. After researching the different saws, I've decided to go with the 357xp. I was able to use one before buying, and it is a very comfortable saw with plenty of power. I'm not a professional tree service, but it is something I offer to my customers, and it's going to be great for cutting the tops of piles of for seawalls and retaining walls.

treeguy,
the 357 is a real good saw. at $480.00(includes s&h) you will be happy. if you would like to bigger, the 372 is $559.00.
good luck; marty
