You are right about lighter, but faster ?????? - probably in very small wood at best......

MSRP on the 5100 is $409. Why is your dealer charging you $40 over list? They're both excellent saws IMO, enjoy the husky.

Knew you were in for trouble!

When I saw the comment about the Dolmar being slower than the Husky I knew you were going to hear about it in pretty short order. The people on here love the Dolmars and even though I have never seen one of the newer ones in person as there isn't a dealer anywhere near here, I sure would like to see what everyone is talking about. When I bought my 575xp I heard alot of "shoulda boughta Dolamar 7900", of course I couldn't find any even close to the $600 that was claimed to be the price. That being said 14,500 RPM for the 5100 does sound impressive and I would still like to see one in action, or on the shelf for that matter.

Anyway enjoy your saw, with the little bit of cutting I have been able to do between duty days I have been really impressed with the 575xp, and I would expect you will have a good experience with your new saw.

I wore out a 346,great chainsaw hands down.
I replaced it with a 5100 for a little more grunt, the dolmar is working out well for me also,it is stronger than the husky, but not buy a huge amount.
you have made a great purchase in your new husky,enjoy.:biggrinbounce2:

Ocv-did you get your 346xp through a local dealer?

My local dealer has a 346xp for $484 plus tax!!!! I found a local shop that has the 5100s for $399+tax. The dealer told me it was too soon to tell regarding it's reliability(I still want one anyway). He questioned the lifespan of a 14,500 RPM saw. But the 346xp (14,500 RPM) has been around a while and has a great track record.

well most of my local dealers say that the parts for dolmar are harder and take longer to get ahold off. to start of im a small guy so weight issues were one of the most considered item.next was parts support.with the husky its a 5 min drive and the dealer stocks almost all the parts for the 346. as for the dolmar they are new item to this area and he said that the parts he has ordered for some people take about 2 plus weeks for him to recive. plus instalation time. with the husky i can break it and have back im my hands by the end of the day fixed.
i was not at all saying the dolmar was a weaker saw. just that from using bolth i can honestly say that for me the 346 was the way to go.i by no means am a proffesinal feller .actully this saw will never see a tree for felling mainly just bucking. just mainly using it to cut fire wood and help local neighbors. in the long run the dolmar 5100 and the husky 346 were the 2 saws it came down to .and the dealers in this area seem to think that they can sell the dolmars for a higher price than suggested.
again guys thanks for the reply .

any suggestions on what i can do to make the husky last forever. or is there anything that needs changing.

A lot of guys here see the solution to every problem is Dolmar :hmm3grin2orange:

Enjoy the 346, its a really great saw, you'll enjoy it, and its a pro-quality saw.

musch
i see you have the 346 . have you had any part breakage.if so what . im just a little qurious to haw well the saw is built. i have cut about 3 cords so far. alls well so far . but should i keep anything on hand besides a extra sharp chain.i really like the weight its a light saw .so it seems

I have run it with a 18 and 16 inch bar. It seems to prefer the 16, weight wise, and I have cut everything from brush and downed trees to clear trails to firewood, to 24" oak.
I have not had any issues with it at all, and as a matter of fact, it is probably the best starting saw I own.

the only thing that I needed to do is clip the carb limiter caps, because the high was wide open, and still pretty lean.

As far as parts, I am not too concerned.
I am not beating the S#!t out of it, but it feels pretty solid.
