Hey fellow saw lovers, new to the forum, but always amazed at the info on here so I figured I'd give it a go. I just picked up a shindaiwa 48 (possibly 488) from a family member who didn't need/use it. I cleaned it up a little and runs great. Started immediately and oiler and everything appear functional. Was wondering if anyone could identify the serial number to a year and exact model type. I've noticed others mention a "48" and was directed that it was likely a 488. I'm just assuming an older version. Serial number on saw is 5018265 with 48 in bold directly below it. Also, thinking about selling it after I replace the spark and air filter. Any idea on value?

I was told the first number is the year and the second two numbers is the month. I've got some older Shindaiwa equipment where this doesn't work so take this with the knowledge it may not be true.

I like the 488's. Personally I've picked them up for around $100 thinking I got a sweet deal. I've seen them go for quite a bit more than that and see no reason why I would feel guilty of for asking a couple hundred or more for one in good shape.
Despite what some may say the ones I have are reliable, easy to start and run well.
