well- I see the name "DEAN" alot but I guess I haven't been around long enough to know who's who. Just trying to get a couple of names so I don't bother the wrong folks... since I got involved on this frickin' site, I have bought a 200T, 440 Mag and now the 361 and now I want the dang thing modded..looks like I'm under the influence...

"You got hosed Tommy!!"

Dean is Washington hot saws, one of the site sponsers, his id is klickalittesackit" or something like that? He has built a very nice rep. from what I have heard, never had any work done yet. The other is NWCS (I beleve) and from what I gather he used to work for Dean before going out on his own, don't really know anything about him other than seems to be a nice guy.

You are very welcome, I try. Some days are better than others:ices_rofl:

BTW: that stump is the first tree I dropped after buying my ms 390, that I refer to a lot. 64" across. (I am 6'1") Had to hire a guy to stump it! 11 cord off I Oak tree!!!

Dang- I would love to have had some of that in milled board- hope it wasn't next to your house- we just dropped a 42 incher that was 8 feet from the back of the house- (I didn't do it myself- I let the best tree man in the area do it for me) He did an awesome job- it was right on top of a gas line and he
barely disturbed a blade of grass

Nope, standing out in the middle of a wheat feild, could not have been easier:blob2: Pulled the trucks and trailers right up to it, dropped it chopped it split it and loaded it all up right there!

You could try to ask West Texas what he thinks, he has two modded 361s from two different "builders" - Ed Heard and Dave Neiger. Both saws perform nicely, as far as I understand.

I am satisfied with both of my 361's before and after modification. I did a normal muffler mod on one and that helped. Then sent it for further mod to Big Dave Neiger who was a sponsor at that time; and that helped more. I'm only in to using my saws for 'work' as I'm not in to competition, etc.

There are several sponsors and former sponsors who do good work.

Modded 361

I have had a 361 for about a year now and finally decided to send it off to get worked over. With out question Dean at Washington Hot Saws was my first choice. I have a stage 2 066 red light that he built for me and after running it I never looked back. Excellent communication, extreamly friendly service, and quality workmanship. I'm sure there are other great builders out there but I highly recommend Washington Hot Saws.

I've got a 361 and it burns through wood like a house afire without any mods. I don't really get all this modding business. Seems kind of overkill.

I suppose its like souping up cars, trucks and so on. That I do get. [smile].

I would also recomend Dean at Washington Hotsaws. He built me an MS 460 that I am in love with. I have done business with him for a long time! Hes great to deal with.

BTW its Klickitatsacket.....you know for the record.

I would recommend NWCS but hasnt been in the game long enough, though all his designs are proven designs from over at WHS. Good to deal with though from what I hear.

I know what you mean - Can't believe how nice the stock 361 is to use. I think many who recommend modding have been sawing a long time and are very speed sensitive - in order to get the most done in the least amount of time from a business aspect. Of course, there's almost nothing like feeling a good saw melting through a log!

Here is my take on Modified saws: If you want more power that is great. For the most part however most of my customers are not necessarily looking for more power but less weight. If you like to run a 066 maybe you bump down to a 046 and modify it so that you have the same or more power but you are losing the extra pounds. At the end of the day those pounds add up. Some guys really like the faster cut so that they are done quicker. In some cases speed = more dollars at the end of the day. I will say that the 361 is a beautiful design and modify very nicely. I have not got to see one of the new 441s yet but am hoping that the design is similar to the 361.
