New Stihl bar, chain hard to turn

I'd replace the drum, it looks kinda worn. If you do, get the oregon rim sprocket kit, it's better than the spur setup that the saw has now. I believe the oregon part number for that kit is 100961X.

The kit is probably $25 or so.

It’ll start wearing your chain faster. I’d run the old chain until you get the new sprocket if you have to keep cutting with it.

If you take the bar off the saw does the chain run through the groove smoothly & freely all the way round? It may be damaged or have an imperfection or possibly even be mis labeled

Whatever happened with the hard to turn chain. Mine (brand new) is doing the same thing! Turns freely by hand for four or five turns and then grabs at the sprocket.

Hey I forgot about this! So I ended up just really oiling the sprocket and bar guides, and revving her a ton until she finally broke through. Has been running great ever since!
