We need to know what kind of business you are wanting to start. Are you wanting to continue in the firewood or get into production logging?

Study up on what grade hardwood logs are, how to ID them, how to cut them down without ruining them, how to cut them to preferred mill specs. Start by visiting the hardwood mill buyers.
Have them come walk you through and ID the highest grade trees. Get several quotes on their value. Then cut them, and send them in- do this starting mid-september through till snow is so deep you can't move them. Concentrate on the high-dollar stuff.
For the start, just take the logs out. Leave the tops, let them be till you get done doing the money making.
BANK the money. Live on .99 cent K-mart burritos and water. When you have $10K, come back here and ask us about skidders.
Mean time, work on your credit score. Google "how to build perfect credit".

Then DO IT.

Well said, been there done that. I bought my first jd 440 at age 18 back in 1979. The price was $ 10,000.00 MY payment was $205.02 per month . I remember it like it was yesterday, but would I do it all over again ??

There is a world of difference from tossing a few rounds into the pickup and moving logs to the mill. For cutting firewood sounds like you're all set maybe invest in a bigger truck... and a couple of splitting axes/mauls (ya didn't mention them). But logging is a very different beast yer four wheeler is gonna have a little trouble moving 16" logs 16' long at a rate fast enough to make money. We need to know what ya want to do to give more/better advice (or just plain deconstructive criticism:msp_biggrin:) good luck
