thanks Clearance. I am the same height and will pick up a 24" at some point.Probably with a ship chain and regular. Being a non pro and also not that tall I also wanted to stay with the shorter bar for now for safety reasons. Get used to the more powerful saw. Hate to change my screen name to peg leg or something.

Beav, Wally here-joking, look a shorter bar is more hazardous than a long bar in my opinion. Untill recently in B.C. saw that had long bars (I think 36") were not requierd to have a chain brake as long as they were made before 97? around there anyways.

27" or longer and before 1998 I believe it was. I think part of the reasoning was that anyone using that long of a bar was likely to know what they were doing and take extra care in using the saw, plus when a bar gets that long, the brake is likely less of a factor in injury or not during use.

I highly recommend getting a Windsor chain (chisel) and Windsor Bar with speed tip for your saw. You will not be disappointed! I'm a big fan of the Husky's but I do like the Stihl chain, wouldn't ya know it , I think its made by Windsor for stihl ! HC

friend if you get a good 372 .. u wont need an better saw.. reletivelely lite and a cutting fool. still say let dan or dave modify it.. just a lot of difference . but even without mods ,all the saw you wioll need, for work described.

372xp arrived today

The new 372XP arrived today form Bailey's with a 20" bar and may I just say Woo HOO. Could not be happier with what I have seen those far. May change my name to Envy of Beavers.

My wife pointed out it matched the Kubota tractor. Still strugglling with whether that is good or bad.

Thanks for all the advice and info!

Congrats on your new husky purchase...now get yourself a couple extra good quality chains and get cutting!!! ;) HC

just my 2 cents......get that saw set up before running it. i ran a 385 and a 357 out of the box and both saws only lasted a year. i took them to a dealer and he checked the saw's out and said .......what did you run these out of the box? i still don't know how he knew that. baileys is great for deals but you also need service.......

i just recently moved and started dealing with a new husky dealer for parts......i just ordered 2 395s for 725.00 each online, and a 372 from baileys. i got to speaking to the dealer about saw price's and he told me forget about what there marked . he will try and match the best price i can get. which i thought was pretty cool of him since i only just started doing business there.

Good point kr_tree, if your loyal to your service shop...they are loyal to you and will take good care of ya. In the tree care business, you will meet many people and a good number of them will ask you about your equipment...what make , where you get it at , why you like it, who's the guy you deal with and services it etc. Take this situation and turn it into an advantage. Talk to your dealer/service shop, get a handful of his business cards and pass them along to your customers. The customers go to the shop on your referral, the shop is happy with you, and you get great deals from the shop...a win win situation and everyone is happy. Word of moth rules in this business. I've been doing this for a couple of years with my service shop owner. Last year alone he tells me that I was responsible for the sale of six chain saws , two lawn mowers and a good number of service work etc. Guess who gets there to buy new equipment at dealer cost and have their service work done for free??? ME! :D The more you help others the more you help yourself ! HC

i don't cut where i live.....i have a 70 mile commute. but the dealers where i live are much better than where i cut. the dealer where i cut charged me 16.00 a piece for vibration bushings for a 288. the dealer where i live charged me 8.00. i needed a brake handle for a 394....the dealer where i live gave me a complete clutch cover with brake handle (used) for 25.00 and since i pay cash for bar's and parts he started giving me a nice price brake from what they are marked.

i took an ms200 to the dealer where i cut since it would not idle. he put a carb kit in and charged like 80.00. the saw ran the exact same. so i took it to a dealer where i live and he told me the bottom end was bad, air was leaking past the bearings so it couldn't create enough vacume to get the fuel up to idle.

the dealers just seem alot better in upstate new york than down in the city.

I have full comp full chisel chain on my MS 440 Magnum 20" bar, If I push on it much it will bog. I cant stand it when the saw bogs, I want a saw that cuts like its possessed.

I'd have to say, that you have something seriously wrong with your saw if it's bogging with a 20" bar. 28" I can see but not a 20" on a 440. You might have a scored cylinder.
