Well I travelled 6 hours to get this old work horse wanted one for a while bc of parts the parts that interchange with my concrete saw.

she needs a little loving but it came with another control? Handle and complete carb I also have the remains of a TS350 or 2 so i should have more then enough parts for it.

Great old saws .My favorite all around old saw they come with 8 pin sprocket for 3/8s chain or 7 pin for .404. they have 56 ccs but the later ones have 60ccs I got a 350 cut off saw and it was 60ccs but the cylinder was worn out so I used a 56ccs cylinder.
Kash
If this cylinder goes it will get a 49mm. When I rebuilt 6 ts350 for a customer i used the Chinese cylinders they seem to be holding up as he rents them out. I have a ts360 that I paid $25 for at a yard sale but it needs a coil and handle(bottom plate busted up) it will get there eventuall.

This one is 3/8

Most of the 08ss I have saw have the govenor disconnected. There is a fan blade next to the flywheel then a wire linkage to the choke so the governor only advances the choke at high speeds. I have ran them both ways and if the carb is set right not much difference. The governor feature is great for a loner saw the rental companies loved these saws as it is almost impossible to burn them out from to lean carb setting.I have saw a few with super high use and the choke shafts had play but still ran great. The HL carb is bullet proof just like the rest of the saw.The only weak point is where the front handle bar attaches to the oil tank.

The front handle was loose on this saw but that was easy to take care of. biggest problem I’m having is finding a longer bar being large mount Stihl finding a 21 or so inch bar is a pain at least for hard nose sprocket I can find but would need a .404 drum.

I had the opposite problem. I needed a short 12mm sprocket nose in .404. I needed it for a 041G. I found it at a dealer 22 hours from when I was leaving for a show

I like hard nose and longer bars we cut a lot of wood on the ground and a lot of the wood is dirty. I may have found a solution woodland pro hard nose single rivet tip should fit the 21 inch Oregon bar I found. This saw came from 3 hours north of me and was technically out of the Carolinian mix most cedar and fir around there saw is plugged with saw dust.

So you are wanting a short hard nose ? I believe Stihl sells them everyday. How short? I may have a deal for you. How about 13 inches
Looking for around the original max of 21 inch. Idk if Stihl still sells a 3002 bare around that length and idk what’s going on with Oregon but they seem to be pulling products overnight.

The 17 inch bar this came with looks like a roller coaster I will have to use it as it for now since I don’t have a belt grinder

Were these things ever popular as a chainsaw? I was giving a friend a helping hand cleaning out an old dealership inventory and found a 08S that had not sold , it had a couple of parts robbed off it and just left in the box. The guy I was helping wanted nothing to do with it so I took it home and when we sorted out most of the parts inventory there was NOS parts a plenty to replace what was missing. It looks so crude I never even put fuel in it let alone try running it.

I kinda like them good for fire wood pretty easy to maintain parts are still available at the Stihl dealer for the most part.
only problem I have with it is putting the bar and chain back on that’s where their a pain in the rear need 3 hands.
This one might end up with a carb rebuild after all for some reason it’s bogging down when you pull the throttle and it idles way too high and spitting fuel on the air filter Might throw a hl292 on it that I have sitting here. There’s a noshort 3002 pulpwood bow bar on eBay but at around $500 not going to happen.

They don`t look so bad as a concrete saw but as a chainsaw I have so many better to me choices I doubt I would ever run one as a chainsaw. An oddity and conversation piece for me.
These were sort of stihl first Kombi tool all kinds of attachments were available I passed up a drill and a 2 man auger a couple years ago that I’m kind of kicking my self for now both used this power head.

one thing I do like about having the hl166 in there is it uses the rk88hl kit same one the pioneer 620’s use I’m going to order a pile of them sooner then planned I guess.

I have seen the attachments around and even an ice auger setup for through ice fishing, all better choices over a chain but I would leave that up to the individual. I kept the one I have around in case I ever find a concrete cut saw in need of good internals but so far none have come my way. The big Partners and a few Husky varients have come through but only needed cleaning and tune up parts.

My concrete saw is a TS 360 with the rear handle but it might get converted into a top handle bc the bottom plate is broken and I can’t find anyone willing to weld magnesium here and can’t justify buying a new one since I paid $25 for it at a yard sale.

The ts 350 seem to be very popular down here you can practically trip over the things most need cylinders though and or coils.
