Hey I havn't heard anything about the four stroke chains saws lately. Have they given up the idea. I watched some moto-cross on Sunday and Yamaha's 4-strokes seem to be top notch, power kept them right ontop of all of those high revvvving two cycles. Any news on whats to come???? thanks the Hoosier

One of the big things that a 4 stroke saw would have to contend with is the wet sump, while the motorcycles can make sick power out of the 4 strokes, they don't run them on their sides, well not more than the 10 seconds to crash anyway.

I have heard nothing on this, but I wouldn't be suprised to see the 4 mix engine Stihl has wind up in a saw in the next couple of years. But I could be wrong and they maybe will just throw catalitic converters and air injection pumps on them to make them past the EPA regs.

No 4-mix chainsaws in the sightable future......they just don't spin fast enough. Stihl has other technology coming out for chainsaws......it will be good stuff.

I heard a little about the four mix technology before. If it burns oil in any way you can bet the EPA will be target them just like the 2 strokes. I guess the engineers will have to get the oil in the crank case issues worked out. I would like a piece of that patent!! I can see that low rpm high torque engine chippen wood, no smoke just pure wood! I wonder if Jiffy Lube will expand to the ten minute oil chage to saws??? I guess will have to wait and see.. the Hoosier

Sharpen your chain it's a jungle out there!!!!!!

THe 4stroke chainsaw is closer than you may think, Dolmar has working prototypes and they were shown in an international logging show in Cologne Germany last year. Believe it or not bu this saw runs at 12,500 RPM in all postions. It is my understanding that Stihl too has one that utilizes there 4-mix technology. You will be seeing them soon.

Not sure how it is in Indiana, but here in Illinois motocross races, the 4 stroke 250s run in the 125 class, and the 400 4 strokers run with the 250s. They dont exactly run away with the starts either. I would rather have a unrestricted carb 2 stroke saw.:(
