here's a pic

I like the 7-foot, but then I'm not exactly climbing the big trees of, say, British Columbia, or New Zealand, or the Western U.S.

Still, if I were to climb your monsters, I think I would do it in the same sorta manner as now, which is to BigShot, ascend, do the treeguy thing.

Here's overcoming not being long enough

Even here if I'm on a trunk too huge for the lanyard, I can lengthen it with one of my rated slings, used either basket, or full length, depending on the largeness. This will get me through any dance and still allows me adjustment off the microcender. 7 feet, (2.13 m) goes around my waist two times and clips almost perfect. I would like it to be 6 foot 10 1/2 inches (2.1 m). I have a 33 " waist (83.5cm). I love my lanyard, love it.

Where's the rated sling

Since this is a Nick Araya thread, I thought I'd slide in one of Nick's tenex loops. I've used that on the last half a dozen big trunks.

OK, finally, here's a rated sling.

TM- What do you use that sewn webbing sling for? The one that is inside the pink tenex sling I made?

What the heck is it?

It's double-thickness webbing. That pic was from quite awhile ago. Since then I've taken the eyed double thick slings and bar-tacked the sewn areas properly and had them tensile tested by American Wire Rope and Sling for my own curiosity.

I enjoy the length of one of your continuous loop slings, but it's too long just to let hang. If you clip it back to itself to diminish the hang length to 1/2. they start out like this:

While the eyed double-thick hangs like this...

There are inherent advantages to not having the sling getting caught up in your feet, or saw.

To answer your question as to what do I do with them? Whatever you do with slings; redirects, light rigging, lengthening a flipline, in-crown SRT anchor, and on and on.

Thanks treemachine! Love the pics!

I know this is an extra step, but when I tie slings like you show, I double them, then tie them into a big, soft overhand knot or slip knot. It keeps them where they should be. But, it is an extra step.....just an idea!
