We had two poulan dealers. Both are stihl dealers now, but one still has my pile. The other threw away 2 dumpsters of old poulan parts right before I really got into saws. I almost threw up one his floor when he told me.

I go around to some of the local shops and I've had some of them tell me they've thrown away lots of old chainsaws. I told them not to do that, just call me and maybe I could buy them...I've gotten no calls.

How to get them you say, then you say you can still find places to get parts for Poulans?

Which quote is it? Your confusing me. :hmm3grin2orange:

The first quote was kind of a joke about putting Homelite rings in a Poulan, thought you'd catch on to that one pretty quick. Besides it wasn't about my saw. I rarely come to AS to have you guys help me find parts, I have a few locals, not dealers, that have a few parts and saws. Then there's 'the bay. Right now with the weather changing I think I won't be doing a whole lot of repairing. I have an old building to work in that's not too comfortable to work in when it gets cold. I have a truckload of saws that I repaired this summer so think I'll coast awhile...

I asked how you got them because on the older saws at times you need all the sources for parts you can get.

Maybe you should offer more for them then the scrap yard will pay for them.

A couple of shops around here would rather throw their old saws, mowers and stuff like that in a ditch than to mess with them. The ditch is on their property so there's no digging them up. I've offered to let them set the price on their parts saws but lately nobody is selling anything. I've pretty much quit asking them, at least for now. There's still a lot of old saws in yard sales and flea markets around here. Maybe next Spring I may make the rounds again.

You know I think $25 is quite a bit for a set of rings also. On the other hand, that saw is over 30 years old, how long do you think its going to be easy to find every single part for it or any other 30 year old saw.

Old saws are fun but there a challange, and you need patiance for the parts to be found, if you really want them rings you may end up just getting them where you can find them and that sometimes means paying the price for them.

If you dont have that patiance or you really need that saw as your only one to cut wood, then maybe you should go buy a brand new one.

You will then have a factory warranty and a easy parts supply. The other thing is that to get a saw today to match the quality of the old Poulan you will have to spend alot of money to do so.

Good luck...

No worries, found rings for my 3400 on line. I went ahead and ordered two sets and a intake gasket for less than $25.

Not my only saw, just my only Poulan saw. I have a few other saws to make a living with.

Just found this 3400 a little while back and it spoke to me. "Please take me home and fix me". Kinda like that 1200A Pioneer it was screaming "Take me home". May never find parts for it either. But I won't tear it down until I get the 3400 up and running. Parts may not be as expensive as my bill at the Psychiatric Clinic.

Just thought I would ask around here. I thought you guys would have some insight to finding parts for Poulans.

I like new saws but would rather have ones that last and remind me of the days when my life was simpler. I currently do not have a saw that's less that 10 years old. They may not be the best but they're mine and I like them.

All my saws but two are over ten years old and those two are 455 huskys. I have about 30 saws right now.

I'd like to find some of the stuff you were smoking when these saws were talking to you. :biggrinbounce2:

He might have been sniffing the saws. We just discussed this in the swap meet a few days ago. It's a new epidemic among CAD victims.

Well what I have found is that alot of online sellers list that they have parts. After I order them I soon find out they do not have the parts and cannot get said parts either. After I find this out they reimbuse my credit card, but I think its a scam as they never update there website and keep listing those same parts.

I will not order anywhere till I can call, talk to someone in person and see if there really is a chance they can get them.

I wish you luck in getting yours and if you do, I know you wont mind coming back here to let us know where you got them from.

Thats ok, I was just messin with you anyway for calling it junk. Like Gregg says there far from junk and acutally some of the best P/Cs out there.

You are free to you opinion though.

Now you going to spend a whopping $37 for a piston kit or not? Check out the price for a gasket set also, very resonable.

I'm not ordering nothing until I see what I'm getting as far as quality. All this talk about nice pistons from the factory and yet I see no pics of them posted. The cylinder is nice but this piston is junk IMO. I'll pull it down again next week take some pics and post them up. This piston is of the poorest quality I have ever seen in a two stroke engine. It has no nurle on the skirt and the casting is so rough around the pin wall and under the dome I'm surprised any factory wood use it. I've seen better come out of a 1955 265 Chevy block. Hell I saw better looking pistons in a 41 chevy straight 6. I think a Ford Model A or T is better than this. I do hope this is just a fluke.

Hmmm.

That's weird. I have a bunch of poulans from that vintage. I have had the cylinders off of at least 5 of them and the pistons look much better than any aftermarket piston I ever saw. Maybe not as nice as a Mercedes diesel piston, but then again, they cost 280@ with rings.

I have run into the exact same thing when ordering online. I also believe you are right about it being a scam to get people to their web site, and they never update that the parts are NLA.

Well, You just made me go out and open the bag on one I have, to take pics. I can't take close-up pics to save my azz, but here are a few. Its a Poulan Pro 60cc piston that came with the cyl. I posted earlier. I never used this one, as the original was still new looking.

Gregg,

Poulan Tim Allen Bad Boy

Does anyone have a green, tank/handle assembly for a 3450/3750? I got my Tim Allen Bad Boy saw, and the handle was broken.:bang:

I've had that happen too. Ordered the same Craftsman/AYP/Poulan/Husky garden tractor steering drag link from three different places that stated they had one in stock..........and each eventually told me via email that the part was NLA and then credited my card. Big waste of time.

With the small guys it may well be a scam. Sears does the same thing too though.....and I don't think they're scamming. Just incompetence and poor inventory system management. They kept my money for four months before finally telling me that the 200/300 series crank seals that I ordered from them were NLA (and crediting my account). Their website STILL lists those seals as being in stock and available for order. Luckily folks here have figured out the aftermarket #'s for those seals since then....

Gregg,

Gregg, that piston sure looks like junk to me. :ices_rofl: I have no idea WTF is going on with this guy Naked Arborist nor do I know where he got his degree in metallurgy or all the equipment he has to do a complet PMI on his pistons to proclaim that his piston that was damaged by a foreign object to be junk.

What ever, he was looking for a piston, I pointed out where to get one, now he aint happy? I guess you just cant help some people so I guess I'm done with it.

Guess some folks just ain't cut out to be Poulan Lovers. What a shame. On the flip side, if they were, a beat up 3700 on fleabay would go for $800. And we definitely wouldn't get any more deals on parts.
