Tim, those numbers that Thomas posted were not quite correct for the clutch side seal. The seal he list is a 20mm ID when the crank is actually like 17.5mm.

Thats why I went through the trouble searching them out again. Hotshot actually come up with something even better but I have not tried them myself yet.

You're right. The math just doesn't work on the aforementioned post. I also notice that he never answered your request to "let us know how it goes".

Thanks Mark for that. I deleted my post to avoid misleading anyone.

What the heck

I just picked up a pile of poulan pros of the semi newer variety. One is a pp295 that needs crank seals and I'm not finding any. Last I checked, I thought these were all over the place. I must have been looking at the newer ones. Anyone know where to get these? They are mtp 5145.

All the 295's that I have worked on had the bearing and seal as one piece. The part number for that is. 530056363. If you plug that into ebay you will find plenty to choose from. If yours is different then that could be a problem.

Yeah... My bad. It's a 255. Older vintage. The 295 I have has a scored piston. This has a thin seal that fits in a groove, not around the bearing.

I tore them both apart at the same time....oops

From the Poulan Pro website for a PP255
PWE530019170 SEAL-C'SHAFT 1.22

Really? I get no results on poulan.com and poulanpro.com. What am I missing here?

Can't beat that price to get a saw back in the woods.

Edit: Ohhhhhh.... You click on the HUGE parts banner at the bottom....

Nope but I found that once on a S25. I'm not sure it broke on its own though, someone started changing lines on it and probably broke it takeing the flywheel off.

I did find that the flywheel off a 2300CVA is a exact match to the late model S25.

Mark, I found it kind of strange that only the 'pawl fins' were broke. Maybe possibly this story is related: A few weeks ago I went to check a "blowout sale" at mower/small engine repair shop. One of the mectechs got a Poulan 3300 to start, but it wouldn't stay running, then it wouldn't restart. He was yanking the recoil so hard and pulling it out so far I thought for sure he was going to pull the cord out and/or break the recoil.

The flywheel info is good to know :msp_thumbup:.

Other than the purtee gold label, what makes this Craftsman Special Edition special?

I dont know what they are for the 361. Just get in there and measure them up and let us know what you come up with. :msp_wink:

will do. it'll be a while yet. WAY too many saws to work on and this and the 401 just hanging around, waiting. dam cad. having a hard time not buying older saws. got about a 5 year backlog right now. rest assured i will post when i get into it. these two saws will prolly move up the list since i like them both a lot.

361 Seals & Measurements

Here are some pics and measurements of some aftermarket seals from Margarita man (on eBay). Inside measurements probably not too meaningful.

I'm assuming the large one is the clutch side and the small one is the flywheel side.

thanks much stang. really helpful.
did you happen to measure the depth of the bearings?
are they single lip, double lip, with or without garters?
feel like i'm looking a gift horse in the mouth but thought i'd just ask

when you get the number for the 306 how bout passing it on to me. could also use the numbers for the 361 and 401 too if anyone has them

Jerry,

Have a look at the link to the SKF chart. You only need the bore diameter (case) and the shaft diameter and width to give to your bearing shop guy. Width doesn't matter as long as there's room to fit the seal.

The clutch side one looks suspiciously like the SKF CR6120 size which is a single lip that many guys on here have used for their 3400 series saws. National also makes a double lip seal 253747. Don't take this as gospel as you need to get those case bore and shaft diameter numbers from your saw

SKF - Product data

Tim

Jerry, I don't have a saw apart so I can't give you a bearing depth. The width of the seals are: 0.125" for the flywheel side and approx. 0.192" on the clutch side. They both definitely have garters and I believe flywheel side may be single lip and the clutch side double lip. Tried to take pictures but they're just too dark to show the lip edges very clearly.

Steve, the larger one is actually the clutch side. It actually seals on the clutch spacer instead of on the crank itself.

Gotcha. Hated to make the assumption w/o have a saw apart but I figured the OD of the seals might help some. At least I could do it on the kitchen table. Too cold to work in the shop right now. Tried to correct all the info.
