Guys
Have any of you used both a Dolmar 123 and a Poulan Countervibe in the past? I already have a great 4200 but I only have one lonely Dolmar. I have found a reasonably priced 123, how would you rate it as compared to a Poulan model.:msp_confused:

I have not run a 123 and really would have no desire to. I have a 133 and it is the same displacement as a 5200/8500 and while very powerful like the Poulans there no lighter, no smother and way over engineered.

I think I would like the 133 more if I had never taken it apart and seen how it was put together.

For the record, no thanks on a 123 which is the same weight/chassis and even less power.

Good morning, new to this forum so I apologize if I have just jumped in to your conversation. I am not to mechanical minded but I know I need a gasket for my poulan where the gas tank comes apart. Is there somewhere I can order one or get matierial to make one?

or you could make your own. go to any auto parts store. take the old gasket with you. get a package of ~8x11 gasket material sheets. go to a flat surface, place the tank top on the sheet and trace the outline and the screw holes. the inside line is a little trickier but you'll figure something out. i usually cut the outside with scissors (leaving a little extra so that if my screw holes are slightly off i still have enough gasket that can be trimmed later), punch the screw holes in the correct locations, then rough the inside with xacto knife (be sure to not get into the holes). then turn the top upside down. place the screws through the holes to hold the sheet in place, then trim the inside with xacto knife. really not that hard, just gotta have a sharp knife and be sure to hold your tongue right. if you mess up, start again. let us know how it goes

Machinist bluing, carpenters powdered chalk, even some paint...something like that could work to mark the whole cut out area.

Or use liquid gasket instead, same stuff they use to go cylinder to base gasketless? miraclecongobondo bond, that stuff??

FYI and muffler question

For the locals the Columbia,pa. Poulan dealer will have a yard sale next month.Poulan Table bargins from 1968 when he started.I got a repaired and never picked up 4200 sitting for 5,6 years he didn't remember. The muffler question which puzzled him is this has a single exhaust to the right side, almost 15/16" diameter.Looks like factory.I was asking about a spark arrestor he never noticed it.Any others have this exhaust?

Or if the original gasket came out in not a whole lot of pieces, you could put it back on the tank, spread a nice layer of MotoSeal on it then reinstall the top tank cover. Done. Easy Peasy been doing it like that for a long time.

Dave, the exhaust were all like that stock. The spark arrestor screen is inside the muffler wrapped around the diffuser.

Sure wish like hell I could attend that yard sale!!

6.5hr for me to york,pa. Add another 3hrs for you eh Mark :msp_scared:

I tore the 236 down today if for some reason someone needs to see inside one. Air leak was 1 of 2 cylinder bolts loose and base gasket wore in to from vibes I am guessing from being loose.

Yeah to far for me to make it, I have to work anyway.... :sucks:

Got to work tomorrow and then go over to my uncles to help buck up ash that went over in the storm a while back. He says its about 40" across and his 18" 350 husky aint getting it on this one.

Asked me if he could borrow a big saw and I told him no. Told him that with all his back operations he shouldn't try to do it and I would be over to do it for him.

I'm thinking that the PP655 should make quick work of it. Hope its under 100deg tomorrow afternoon..

Mark, Thanks all his books were showing like you said but with front exhaust .Yea there just starting to table things I saw piles of bars.I'll still post up when it is.3 to 4 weeks

If I was still in Virginia I could be there in 4 hours, I made many trips to the York/Lancaster area to pick up tractors and such. In fact I hauled an Oliver OC-3 crawler out of Columbia about 15 years ago. I would be interested in bars, especially any that are 24" or longer.

so it is my understanding that the 123 is to a 133 as a 4200 is to a 5200.:msp_mellow: That the Dolmars are of similar weight and power as the Poulans but they are over engineered. :msp_mellow: I have never seen one.

No there some what heavier then the Poulans.

Why not ask your questions about Dolmars over at the Dolmar thread................

Diaphragm material...

I don't recall who was in charge of the diaphragm material buy, but I just now remembered it and found an email in my inbox. I don't know if it's too late now, but I sent my name here, as requested. I'm terrible about not checking emails since so much of it seems to be spam. :bang:

Only 4 reasons I can think of at the moment.

1. Because I thought I would ask the group of people who could most likely answer my question.

2. The Poulan 4200 is the only saw I have run of that size for any length of time.. If someone tells me a Dolmar 123 runs about as good as a Dolmar XXX it would be meaningless to me. If somebody says it runs about like a Poulan 4200 but weighs more, that is information that is useful to me.

3. Your first response just said "there no lighter, no smother and way over engineered." Since you didn't say they were heavier I had no way of knowing. I have been advised several times that the info on the chainsaw collectors site regarding weight is not to be trusted so I have to ask the people who know.

4. The last question I posted on the Dolmar thread 6 days ago has had no response. It is about info that I found on the chainsaw collectors site that seemed to be questionable.

Fair enough, and your right to question the info at the chainsaw collectors site.

So you know, the 133 weighs 17lbs PHO.

that's the same one for sure.

Yep. XX-D. Here's my Craftsman red 1.9 badged XX-D next to my 2.1A (25DA).
