I've only been using Tapatalk on my phone. I've given up trying to get on the site with my desktop. I guess that's what the hacker's want is to just shut us down. I'm thinking there must be a monetary reward hidden somewhere.

If they have to hack something why not do the Obamacare website where a few viruses will actually do some good.

I seriously doubt the intent was to shut the site down. This isn't a political site. Yes to monetary reward. Various regular reasons are to garner zombie computers to engage in advertising click fraud, or to use in DoS or DDoS attacks, etc, or to get login credentials to try and winkle out possible credit card info, again, to use for fraud purposes, i.e. make money. There's more but usually it boils down to making illicit money, directly, or the next few steps away.

There are a few differently lately this year big vbulletin forum software exploits out there, thousands of sites got hacked. A lot of people have had their home computers compromised (turned into zombies) merely by surfing to those sites.

Any given random day there are millions of normal joe blow home users with their computers being zombified and they don't know it and they are sending out fraudulent clicks, sending email spam, etc, and those folks don't know it is happening. They have a dirty computer, don't know it, and become part of the problem. Just is, is all.

Great idea and I did what you said. However how do you start a new thread? Have issues with one of my Stihl 015 points saw?
Bob

You can't right now. This site is crippled. I don't have a facebook account so am not seeing what they are saying over there for this site. https://www.facebook.com/pages/wwwarboristsitecom/109299992426457

I know they are working on it, but to what extent, can't say. I have read a ton the last few days on vbulletin and exploits and what some other sites had to do to fix their similar problems. It all depends on which exploit was used. Sometimes one exploit is used to inject another, and so on. It gets complicated.

I have looked at various on topic alternative forums, they are getting by for now. I haven't joined any yet, I think this one can be fixed. It may wind up costing AS some money and get some pro help, etc. I don't know what they are doing really.

I had one site years ago, huge successful site, I was a moderator there but not an admin, they slap refused to alter some things to make the site secure, left it vulnerable and myself and somee others kep asking them to do the changes, got ignored, and eventually it had to be shut down. I spent days cleaning up hacked posts and finally I just left. I mean, there's only so much you are gonna do as an unpaid volunteer... the owner of the site cheaped out, wouldn't listen to reason and lost a good gig.

sometimes you need to hire pros, that's reality.

I hope Linkbucks isn't stupid enough to think that this is good advertising. I would never go on their site on purpose. I was told that Linkbucks had nothing to do with it, that someone else was putting it on. If that's the case then the people at Linkbucks have something to worry about.

If they need to hire pros, maybe we can all chip in a few bucks or do some kind of fundraiser to help out.

I don't know their economics here, other than it is a large site and has tons of regular sponsors. I kinda sorta thought that was what sponsors were for.

betcha they're starting to get somewhat peeved, eh?

Well "somewhat" would fit. But, they have websites too, they know stuff happens. They know the administrator and whatnot are working on it.

Tell ya who is peeved, me! Trying to fix a non functional kitchen sink drain, this cabin is old, they retrofitted with plumbing years ago, the only access is cut holes in the floor! I just finally got to the first elbow and cut it off with a sawzall reaching in, 50 years of gunk. Snake wouldn't dent it. Grumble. Taking a peeved off break right now......

Well got back from the poulumbingan store, got what I needed I hope. snaked out the cut off section, threw an elbow on it, elevated it, poured in some pro strength degunkerizer. Letting it sit for awhile then start pieceing it back together then fix the floor. Might just slap some plywood over it for tonight though....

anyway, site seems to be working much better!

wooo hoooo

Hot Dam the site seems to be working good right now!!!!!!:msp_tongue:

I'm not sure I know what people have to gain by screwing up a good website, unless they're selling anti virus and malware cds.

You know, I'm not sure what they get from it, but I can tell you this without reservation!!!
If I could lay my hands on the low living S.O.B. I'd tie him up and drag him slowly behind my old Dodge for 28 miles!!!!!
Then I'd take the remains to the Poulan GTG and throw it down the porta john so we could ALL let him know how we feel about his bull crap!!!!!

Mike
