I did a stupid thing today. I went out and bucked up some logs for splitting with the wind at around 30 to 35 miles an hour. I was using my 335 and the dog gone saw dust got into my eyes and must have scratched them. They have been driving me crazy all day now. Hope fully after tonight they will feel better tomorrow. I guess if that is what I am going to do I need some better eye protection.

Mark has a pic of his clean 475 and PHO weight in in the 14lb's range. stated weighed hair more then the stihl 460.
Guess its 15lbs going by the pic of Marks I found on my site.

Seems his pics here disappeared.

IMO all weight the same. Unless you add the full wrap and big dawgs. I own a 415 425 445 475 505. I like the quad ported 415 425 445 the best of the series.

I can only imagine the quad port saws are even harder to find? I have only seen pictures of the 475. My guess is the jred will be a little easier to find, now Im startin to wonder if either can be found. was the 505 the early jred 2083?

thanks guys

I think I have personally seen as many 475's as I have 2077's. There actually not all the same exact match though as the 475's that I have seen did not have "air injection /Turbo" while I think some 2077's did.

Yes the early 2083's were the same as the 505.

Roger, please put patches on your eyes and go to bed, the patches will help you not blink, if you did scratch your cornea , you will need to keep the patches on so they can heal

You might find a 505 easier than a 475. Plus things like crank seals are easier to find for the 505.

Maybe it's just me but, I find bucking wood in the winter when it's below freezing generates more dust. Maybe because the wood is dry?

Yes quads are harder to find in 70.7cc especially. 65cc easier to find.

Personally I wouldnt use one for a work saw you depended on for 8 hrs a day 5 days a week. Parts are getting harder to come by. Some even going NLA.

I see 2077 2083 475 FS several times a year on feebay. Yes 505 is 82.5cc early 2083.

See more Jreds then Poulan for sure.

I also tried something one time and the air injection tube didnt make a bit of difference in the saw using it. Tried it on the 505 on and without. IMO dont matter as far as air getting to the filter. So many hole areas in the carb area to draw air anyways.

505 would be ok too, just figured it was like the early 2083 & kinda hard to find. I forgot about jred turbo thing, either or would be ok. I went to sleep before I got thru all the pages readin up on the repair forum, I forgot about that site, looks like most of the folks here are over there too. Think I will join up.

This is just play fun for me, I don't need to run them 8 hours a day. I cut firewood & enjoy working on the saws. These poulans have really opened my eyes up to what most snub there nose to.

I seen some 2083 ii listed. I may try & hold out for a 505 or an early 2083. May call an old jred dealer out in the sticks tomorrow & see what he's got. If you come across some, give me a heads up. Thanks

I got a poulan from Zach aka little possum on Christmas giving thread. Much to my surprise when I opened the box it was a 306 not a 306a.

I know it may be a less desirable saw to most than a 306a with it not having a auto oiler. To me it is alot more desirable because it is alot harder to find.

It fired up after motosealing the tank that leaked and new fuel lines and filter but I couldn't get it to run right. So off with the carb to tear it apart which I did. When I went to reinstall the carb I seen that the carb mounting gasket didn't completely cover the impulse hole on the reed intake. So I made a new gasket and fired it up and seems to be a good runner. The carb looked pretty fresh inside so I didn't rebuild it but I have noticed lately in the rebuild kits from stens they carb mounting gasket for the 306 does not cover the impulse port completely. Have any of you noticed this?

Thats where I like them. Used as firewood saws. So if I have one down and waiting for parts search I can just grab another saw.

If I was going to make a living with a saw. I would want one I can get parts for easily without searching the world over.

Parts are getting harder to find and some NLA. Just telling the truth even though some may not like it.

It doesn't work for a number of saws, especially the ones that have a channel from the reed block to the carb impulse hole. 4200 - 5200 comes to mind as well as my Jred 801. Those carb to reed block / adapter gaskets I've come across seem to be pretty easy to make.

I hear ya these 306/245 are the same way. Been making my own gaskets for years.
