Someone on a local CL is selling a Poulan Pro 225, I don't see that one listed on Mike Acres' site (looked under "Poulan Pro" section.) Is it similar to another saw that's more common? A search found very little info on the interwebs, so any specs, opinions about the desirability of the saw, etc., are all welcome.

Scott in Penfield NY

Its basically just a Poulan Pro version of the micro based 2300. Its 38cc and I assume to be a chrome bore version.

The PP235 is the same but has the antivibe handles like the 2300cva.

Let me spell it out.

I need someone to restore a 5200 for a friend of mine.

I have no info or spare parts for the old Poulans, but this guy is a loyal Poulan man.

Just figured someone with great knowledge (and parts for these models) Poulans would step up and take a challenge.

Of course I was going to pay him/her!

Guess I can see where you'ze guys are coming from.

Good Day!

I don't get it. I thought you were a saw builder and what does Mark have to do with rebuilding one. I have a 5200 and if I want it rebuilt I will do it myself. I know what it takes and all the information for decals and paint are all available here for the asking. I am sure that it could not be any more difficult then a Dolmar.

Stihl Poulan etc. etc. are "Saw Builders".

I'm just a hobbyest that plays with old SDs.

You see I have one of those 'pay it forward' situations, I came here to find THE best person to restore a 5200 Poulan to better than new.

I just want him to have what he really wants, and that IS his 5200 Poulan restored BETTER than new.

Clear as mud?

(Bye the bye, the 'go mango' was in reference to the old mopar color that closely resembles Poulan green)

Good Day!

Sorry sachsmo, I'm not your man for that job, unfortunately. Yes, I love them saws, but don't have a supply of parts for them, or a decent heated shop to do such work, for myself, let alone someone else. I had to find a decent warm enough day last spring to try and paint mine. Our good buddy Steve (67Mustang) wanted me to repaint his 8500. I regretfully had to turn that down. I will tinker and fart around with my own stuff, but just don't want the responsibility of working on others saws like that.

I'm sure if you can restore a big Dolmar, you wouldn't have a problem with a big Poulan. As long as the piston/cylinder are in good shape, thats the main concern, you shouldn't have a problem finding other parts for a restore. Things like bearings & seals are available, gaskets can be made if you can't find new ones. As much as I hate to say it, ebay is a good parts source if ya keep your eyes open. I do wish ya luck with this endeavor. Would love to see the results when this project gets completed too.

Ok Sachsmo that I can understand. Not trying to give anyone a hard time but I am old and sometimes it needs to be put out there in plain English. Oh and I was not the only one who was a bit confused.

I myself do not take on projects of the type that you want, but if there is some magnesium welding that needs to be done that is my niche.

A Poulan Guru I am not. Just a person who plays around with them.

Kevin is right.
Brad would be your man.
I probably have most of the common parts and would be glad to work with Brad on them.
The not so common parts are going to be hard to find and pricey if you do.
I could do a rebuild if his saw is in good shape cosmetically, but I'm NOT going to attempt to paint a chainsaw.

Mike

It's actually a craftsman 5.2

Probably no stickers for that one eh?

Not on the shelves but if the project is important enough to you they can be custom made.
If it is a 5.2 that is a lot closer to "Go Mango" I was just getting ready to tell you that "SubLime" is the Poulan paint and "Go Mango" was an orangish red.
Mark and I both have Craftsman 5.2 saws in pretty decent shape. I would be happy to take some pics of my decals and Mark, if you were to ask real nice, might supply any that I couldn't. He probably wouldn't do it for you, but he might for a fellow Poulan lover.

You are correct,,I'm bad.

Yup we always called it 'slime green er baby **** green!

Yup go mango is orange and looked real fine with a burnt orange interior.

I been away from mopars for nearly 30 years (still have one project on me bucket list though)

Yes,

I have burned many bridges here.

Oh well it was worth a shot?

I might as well just send him a stout 133, me thinks it would grow on him?

I agree with the guys here. Was just a bit confused earlier, and need a bit more plain language.

I also agree that Brad would be a good choice. He's restored more than a few saws, including at least one big Countervibe.

Like others here, I can rebuuld a saw.....but a real restotation is beyond my capabilities ATM due to time/space/equipment limitations. I am very curious to see what red paint is used, as I am a Craftsman branded Poulan enthusiast.

Don't know about burning bridges. I believe what most of the guys are saying is that rebuilding a saw, better than new, for someone else carrys a lot of responsibility. Working on our own saws and making a mistake, well we just kick ourselves in the arse. Mine is real sore.

Bob's right. Mo you're received some helpful responses since you clarified your earlier statement. We aren't 'blowing you off' because of any burnt bridges. Just stating the fact that we're not up to restoring a saw right now, and referring you to someone who most likely is.

I've turned down a few similar requests over the last couple years. Just don't have the time/space/equipment to do a first class job for somebody else right now. My 'project line' is overfull as it is...................and that line includes other folk's saws already.

Thanks. A search found that it looks just like the 2300va. Could be a good little saw, but money's probably too tight for another toy (and it's over an hour away.) If I'm lucky it won't sell right away and the price will soften up (asking $35 for 3 non-runners.)

Your search results were wrong, it is like a 2300, not a CVA model.
