This Dayton badged Poulan was in my recent haul. The tank had been split and poorly sealed at some point, felt like it had zero compression. Took a closer look and it has a decomp on it, don't recall seeing one on a 361 before. Gave it a shot of prime and it took off, not sure what to do with it now...

If you look closely you can see the decomp above the muffler.

Gary, it looks like my 401,

I think it is an 8500, similar to a 5200 with a larger tank and more room between the handles. 85cc's A very strong saw.
Best AV of its time. Most had none. I think my 923 Homelite might run as well but due to the vibes it isn't as pleasant to use. Both are a good match for a Husky 390XP when cutting wood. 390 and 8500 are about the same but the 8500 sounds better

Absolutely gorgeous! I should have bought an old Poulan vs the Makita. I may have to sell it soon and get a lime green saw.

Oh no.
Makita/Dolmar 6400/7900 reminds me greatly of the Poulan 4200/8500.
All great performers, the smaller ones cut way above thier weight class.
And they are far underappreciated by ther general public. Great saws
that don't have orange on them. My 7900 isn't going anywhere.......when I have
some serious noodling to do it is my go to saw. Have to save the old ones for
future generations, run them every once in a while.

Good, sounds like I made a good decision then. Good, sensible decisions are rare with me lol.

I would love to pick up a 7900 although I guess it's cheaper to just upgrade my 6421 with OEM kit. Used the saw this weekend at in-laws to buck up more white oak and poplar. Especially liked the fact my father in-law never knew Makita made saws. I try not to be just another one of the masses. The saw is quite heavy for limbing though, my only complaint.

Anyone know the model number of this saw? Can't make it out.

Piston ring closeness, how close are the Homelite 540 rings to the Poulan 5200 rings? i have both and they are almost identical. Has anyone ever filed the 540's to fit the 5200?

take a look @ my 400 a few posts back, they also made a 400 Auto i believe.

Nice saw. Yeah just looked it up on the acres site. I don't see anything in there for a 430 or 470 which is what the seller lists. Only model with three digits starting with a 4 and ending with 0 is 400, 400A, and 450.

So almost 74cc. Not bad. Now if I can just get it cheap enough that it makes sense to rehab.

Do you know how long I have looked for one of those? And then you go posting it here saying you hope you can get it cheap? :ices_rofl:

Good luck with that. You should keep it to yourself next time. This ain't the ebay thread either.
