I got a 505 in that was white death inside crankcase like that 5200 but not that bad.
Tore it down and split to get a good look see. Crank no good, but might be able to save cases. So it is 1 of about 4-5 505 I owned that I shelved.
Yep, Thats a sad day when ya find that crap inside a saw. I had another saw one time, can't remember what it was, maybe a 3400, that had a case of white death, but not nearly as bad. Could clean it up some, and wasn't into where it would effect the bearings or seals.
That 5200 had it in the reed cage also. That was all totally shot.

So what causes that, water sitting in it for long periods of time?
Nate, I was pleased with the saw itself, the way it turned out, except for the paint. The paint was fine, except for the color. I ordered some automotive restoration paint from some place in Calif. Is suppose to be Mopar J5 Sublime green.
But turned out way to green. Should have been a little "yellower". It don't look bad at all, except when its next to another original paint saw.
If I do another one sometime, will go another route for the paint.

I guess thats what moisture does to magnesium, instead of rust. I think that 5200 came from Georgia, as I recall. Probably sat in a wet basement, something like that. I don't think it actually has to be sitting in water. Just high humidity, or very damp place.

Stephen, don't know if its the same but MM did a pictorial/tutorial a few years back on replacing fuel line on an S25. I copied the thread to a word document. can send it to ya if you send me an email addy. just sayin. jerry
Jerry, the S25 is different, the tank on the 20D is located on the front of the saw, the line looks to have routed down behind the front of the flywheel and along the coil wire but I want to make sure, the starter pulley is behind the flywheel like on a 306A.
I just want to be sure of what i am doing. Thank you for the offer though.

Well the 20D has low compression but is like mint, I also have a 2000 that is the same low compression. The pistons look ok as do the cylinders. I will be taking them apart for further inspection.

Another crazy Poulan Fan
Got this little beauty out of the scrap bin at the metal yard and gave a $10 bill for it. Not too shabby, considering I wiped it down, replaced the fuel and it fired up with a little re-tune. Runs pretty solid....but smokes like the end of Winston Churchill's stogie, esp when turned on it's side. Also seems to be rather oily on the muffler, like it's not burning all the mix. I figure it's something to do with seeping bar oil into the crankcase(haven't tore one of these down far enough to know how the oil tank and crankcase are related) and mixing with the fuel? I'd say there's no chance to score it that way...running a 10:1 mix equivalent probably. haha. Just a check valve gone bad or you guys figure something else could be the culprit? Maybe I can clear some other projects off my bench and get this one tore down soon. Too much stuff to do, not enough time. As always, thanks for any input guys!
Yep, they will burn bar oil with a defective check valve. There NLA from Poulan but there are 3 of them listed on ebay right now, but there pretty proud of them. On the other hand you don't have much in it.
someone was "rebuildin" them w/pics, usin husky duckbills, either here or the pigpen.... need to find it myself. got a couple to do...
I put that up. It works well. I'm not sure where it is but I will try to find it. I can't take ant credit for the idea as it was done before I tried it but the instructions were a bit vague.
Found it. It took 1/2 hr to post it s the site is up and down. Seems to be more frequent lately.
