Question for the long time plastic poulan owners like 2150.
Got another freebee saw...a 1995 gray craftsman 36cc from the BIL from his town transfer station. Looks like 99% brand new almost not a scratch on it. Fired up on prime. The 3 fuel lines DOA of course. Fixed that. Now, no chain lube. Fixed that...new problem..A leak..first time for me. The chain catch screw is backed out 2 turns max and kind of just hanging there in the chain catch. Well to my surprise the case is cracked and pulled out a bit and leaking chain lube. Was able to gently tap it back in place. I'll be cleaning and epoxying it.
The QUESTION is, have any others seen this too? common or super rare?

Have a question for you S25da fans. have several sitting on my shelf and though it would be a ggod time to see if they still run. Got one going but the idle fluctuates . tried to do a pressure test and found that there is an air leak under the oil pump. As I recall there is an impulse opening under the pump. Would this leak affect the idle? Prior to removing the pump and blocking the opening I'm wondering if this could be the culprit. Granted there is enough of a leak to making checking the seals impossible but if the oil pump leak wouldn't contribute to the idling issue it would save me some work.

Most definitely. Usually they leak at the cover impulse channel where the gasket and diaphragm tend to pucker and pull into the channel. Lean idle and tuning issues if that is the location. A new cover gasket and some Motoseal can cure if that is the issue. There was a thread on bridging that channel in the cover with some steel and JB Weld. This would ensure the gasket and diaphragm never collapse over time into that channel. I know Hotshot retrofitted a few using the method, ultimately fixing the air leak at the pump issues.

I took a new little stihl on trade for my 3800. Guy left smiling ear to ear with the new to him poulan.

I cleaned up the little stihl to give as a trim saw to Dad for Christmas. It has easy start and AV is why I took it in. The poulan 2000 I gave dad in 2000 has no AV is finally getting to dads hands.

3800 as traded in no clean up.

Been wanting to work on a couple saws that last couple evenings, but no heat in the garage and it's been in the teens at night. Guess I need to toughen up or get a space heater haha!

My wood stove has been getting a workout of late. -15 Celcius overnights. Nippy. Chimney runs through the shop so the masonry holds some heat and takes the edge off.

Do you guys muff mod most of your saws that don't have a better breathing muffler like the 4000, 4200-8500 models? Say a 3000 or 3400, 3700 type muffler or do you just leave them as is?

I've modded the 3400/37000 saws just adding 2 louvers in the 4000 style
The 2800 & ^ saws I've drilled the diffuser out done it in the 3400 style too.
The 330, 380, 3450 & 3750 I remove the inner tube

Yeah I've done the 4000 style on my 3400 and the 3800 I sold. Just debating on do a muff mod to the red 3.7 and the 3700 or just leave 'em be.

Ok, I read the earlier posts and thank you for the reference. Question I have is that my saw is leaking between the pump body and saw case, not at the diaphragm cover. Is this leaking what the OP was referring to or something else?

I believe the post was in regard to the leak originating at the cover.

The symptoms would be the same irrespective of the origin. A new pump-to-case gasket would be my first guess and a block off behind the pump and pressure test to follow. Would rule out the off chance there were a crack in oiler body in that location.

I have opened up all the ones I've had. Easy hop up.

Then there's my 5200 style super ugly one. I welded the back holes shut and opened the baffle all the way up. Still has a spark screen though. Sounds really mean. Next one will have better welds.

I know how to weld, but don't have a welder oh the possibilities.......

That's what I figured. Post concerned the lack of the saws auto oiler. I may have to block off the impulse hole in the saw body and retest. Now that think about it, I'm not sure an air leak in this area would affect how the saw idles.

Oh hell. Pulled S25 da oil pump and saw diaphragm is torn. Now will have to find one or more likely a parts saw. I do have 4 others so may have to canabalize one.

I have a s25da I just picked up with my 3700. It is only missing a couple things and could be a runner, but if you need a parts saw and want this one, let me know. I'll have to see if the diaphragm is good.
