Then the sticker is wrong. But I also know the build date doesn't match. The date in top cvr is different then the date on the cylinder. So I'd assume the the p&c were changed on that 3.4

I wouldn't be too confident that the dates on the parts would point to the saw build date. Inventory stock rotation wasn't a major concern with most manufacturers back then.
If his saw is a thin ring saw I would suspect the original P&C have been replaced with a 3700 or 4000 P&C

3400, 1.81" bore
3700, 1.875" bore
4000 1.935"

Give it the popsicle stick treatment to be sure

If this means compare to pop stick for thickness, the rings on mine were thicker then his.

Went to get some folks a bit of firewood today. The Larch are really taking on colour now.

Took a couple of backup saws, but the 3000 was all I needed. I sure enjoy cutting when the cooler temps are upon us. The saws run strong and cool.

You stick the popsicle stick in the cylinder all the way to the opposite side from the exhaust port, make sure it's laid down flat on the piston, then you run the saw over by hand until the piston comes up and puts an indention on the popsicle stick, then you take it out and measure from the end to the indention on the popsicle stick, this will give you the bore size

What he means is,

Pull the muffler cover and push a popsicle stick, plastic straw or something soft against the center of back cylinder wall and bring the piston up enough to mark the stick, Pull it out and measure from the end of the stick to the piston mark on it to get the bore size.

Here's a pic of the thick ring / thin ring pistons.thick ring thin ring.jpg

The piston on the right what causes the markings in the ring land area but below looks perfect.i got a 028 super that has marks above the ring but looks great below the ring. It runs fine so i didnt worry about it.

IMO get the Stihl 460 rescue handle for $5. Made right and easy on the hands with no sharp edges like others have. 1128-195-3401

Thanks @Jeremiah Johnson . I really appreciate it.

That rescue handle will work on most saws won't it? I am thinking real hard about one for my 3.7. I don't need it but it beats the tiny ones you see on so many saws.

Works on all saws i have one on my bp655,pro 475,gettin two more for my other 475 and maybe my ms 361
