I've never had any issue with the starters. I wonder why they changed them.
Do it, I dare you to.

Looks like you need to tighten up the starter rope some and idle It up a bit. The motor is kicking back when you shut it off.

We use zip ties to hold the spring together.
1/2” plywood and six 1-1 1/4 inch roofing nails.
Borrow your 5th grader’s compass and draw a circle 1/16” smaller than the housing. Drive the nails in equal spaced tangent to the circle. Wind the spring into the ‘fence’. Clamp with chain nose vice grips and remove three adjacent nails. Drop in in the housing.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it! So as it turns out, I think the module itself is actually good, it just needs a new ignition wire soldered onto the the piece that broke off near the base of the module. So here is another question, do you happen to know what size or kind of wire matches up to this module so I can pick up some to solder the two together? Thanks for the help as always!!!
Looks like the new style gets a better grip on the pulley slots. Those are still available for ordering.

Man he posted a big pic...
Look at Ebay, poulan 7700 and someone has more than 10
Picked up some 1/8 x 1/4 Tygon fuel line today, but it was still too small and didn't seal perfectly where it enters the tank.1/4"x1/8" line I used. That's 1/8 inside, 1/4 outside
Thanks! I wasn't actually able to find the 3/16 x 5/16 locally, so looks like I'll need to order some online.3/16 x 5/16 is the correct size, I use a little longer than the book says, I cut mine to 9 1/2 with a long taper to get it thru the hole from the tank side then cut square and pull 3 5/8 out and hook to carb
I plan to replace the filter - it's pretty grungy looking and I suspect it may be leading to some of the behavior I'm seeing from the saw. Tried to get a replacement 'sock' for the filter, but it ended up being too large. Anyone have a part number for a replacement filter which will work -- preferably one that's not made of plasticSecond that on the 3/16x 5/16. Just replaced mine last month. Real PIA. I bought 6 foot of hose. Sliced 1 foot( wasted) and rolled it up to get it to slide into the tank. Might as well replace the filter too while your in there.
I think the 5/16 OD line a few people suggested will be perfect. Wasn't able to find any locally to confirm though.Someone may have drilled the hole out
It looks like the 5400 has a bigger hole than the 5200Wonder if there was two different hole sizes on these series.
