Hey all, thanks for the help and guidance with my Poulan 4400 the other week. Finally got the fuel line replaced after several hours of cursing! I did end up using the 5/16" OD fuel line and it was a serious battle to get it pulled all the way into the tank. Almost gave up and went down a size at several points.
It runs like a total champ after cleaning the air filter, replacing the fuel filter and running through a tank of ethanol free mix. I'm most pleased by the fact that it starts on the first pull every single time. After getting the saw up and running I also got my alaskan mill setup and set to trying to make some planks. The saw performed great, but I
definitely need a longer bar than 20" for this to be viable on making the very first cut. I ended up having to free hand the very first cut to get the log to be narrow enough which as you can image didn't come out very straight.
Speaking of bars -- it seems like one of the bars I received when I bought the saw wasn't quite the right model for this saw. It's an Orgeon 584274 D6. The existing holes in the bar didn't line up with the tensioner peg, but I was able to use a step drill bit to enlarge two of the existing holes to make it work. The other oddity was that the 20" Oregon ripping chain (72RD072G) that I ordered worked fine with the Oregon bar after my modifications, but it seemed to have too many links to be used with the other 20" bar that came with the saw.
I'd like to order a 30" or 32" bar to use with my Alaskan mill. I don't plan on milling anything that size, it's just that I lose a good 6" of bar with from the mill mounting points on the bar. What's the correct bar to buy that won't need to be modified?
