New piston/ring and cylinder and never run, it should have more than120psi. Unless the ring gap is too big. That would need to be checked. Could be letting compression blow by. I'd drop a little oil down the plug hole and see if it would come up.

Steve Sidwell

The 4218 you all talking about with 120psi is a new p+c?

Was it a way off big squish aftermarket one bought on the cheap?

When bent or the slot in the bar is too wide. If it's worn evenly you can consider going up in chain ga. ie., .060 to .058 or .063

Sometimes you can save one with the wide slot by grinding the rails down. You can grind them down so the slot is no shallower than,

Chain pitch Minimum groove Depth
1/4" P 4 mm
3/8" LP 5 mm
.325" 6 mm
3/8" 6 mm
.404" 7 mm

If the bar has a sprocket nose, the tie straps shouldn't be touching the tip as the chain goes around.

Where'd the OP ‘Welderman85’ of that rebuilt Poulan 4218 wonder off to?
Yes Kevin, it was a new AFM kit that he installed.
No build dimensions of the final squish nor ring end gaps were provided, so not much help here.
sorry I'm here my phone got smashed. Mine was a china p and c from Ebay. I gave up on it and put engine from a non av saw in the av chassis.

How's that 4218 coming along with the compression?

Steve Sidwell
I gave up on the Ebay kit and put a good 150psi engine from a parts saw into the av chassis. Once I tore it down and compared the china parts to the ome parts al the ports were different. Different sizes and shapes.

I pulled this from a back of a shelf yesterday. It is a oem good used transplant for that slightly scored 4218 I tested psi on otherday.

I just never could make myself do that saw and been setting there years now.
Dont help that I also had a like new 4218 and a green version on the shelves ready to go for locals on the cheap.

Pulled them down to get a guy here a idea on the L H settings.

With nothing better to do, I’m working on my 4 s25da and cva’s. Going to replace the top handle rubber on two. Thinking of using a section of garden hose, though one of my others looks to have auto heater hose as a replacement. Has anyone used either one? I’ve replaced many a golf club grip using
Two sided tape and naphtha to ease slipping the grip on. Figured this might work on the saws.
