Hmmm didnt take the typing to pics. Above was one I got in that was NOS in the box. I fixed for owner as it had issues out of the box.
Carb had a stripped out cover fastner in body, lines crumbled, on/off switch apart inside not put together right.

He ran maybe 3 tank through it then traded it to me.

You can see the new oem echo lines and the oem clip I use sometimes when still there. I have other clips for them but with the echo line never needed them on mine.

That's the one. Ebay currently has a brand new one up for auction that I'm watching. Hopefully it doesn't get bid up too high.

Be sure its for a 3400 thru 3800 and not an S25da. Look the same but not the same size.

While grilling yesterday I disappeared into barn to see what was under the JB.

Curiosity how bad it was killing me to know.

Digging JB out I found 2 pin holes but none into the crankcase. Parts she is.

Someones only saw yes it could be used. But not really needed here in that shape. Cutting palms does this in the south. How it happen here no clue. Came from a guy in MI.

Being last saw is ate up on pto case. Parts to help others fix their saws.

Had a couple of the Poulans out for some firewood. The 475 and 335.

Clamshell 46cc Poulan 295 4620 2750 etc. This 2750 is chrome bore.
Some folks like them. I just send them down their way once fixed or I part them out. Not for me.
Cut close to the stihl 025 250 clamshell saws.
Crap epa line that separates.

The 2.0 I worked on to get running for the parts saws. Super nice Craftsman 2.0. Dont show much use.

Used OEM echo 3mmx5mm on these for long term fuel line.

Wasn’t oiling so did the redneck fix for that earlier today.

Oiling now.

Did some work on my 4000 last night. Picked this up a few weeks ago and the auto oiler was not working. Picked up some NOS ones from the bay and got it installed yesterday.

This is my first experience with this series and so far they seem to be super nice. Very light for the size, solid and great ergonomics.

What's everyone running for compression on theirs? This one has a super clean piston but only showing about 115 psi. Not sure if that's around normal or not?

Also is anyone running 80 drivers instead of 81 on their chains? That's a brand new loop I installed and the adjuster is already at 1/2.

Very nice Poulan 4000. The soft handle looks good, drive cover is crack free and complete, and cosmetics are above average. Looks like your saw has the proper Poulan bar stud repair/replacements. What area did the saw hail from according to the dealer/maintenance sticker? Nice looking Homelite's by the way. May I ask if the full wrap on the bench is for a Super EZ or a SXL-925? Once you start running Poulan's, you'll really catch the bug! Best, Max.

I had a running 4000 with low psi like that. I figure just worn rings. = Few I sold and this one was low side 4000 I sold for 125 had 130psi

@3000 FPS has this posted on my chainsaw repair site. =
The 3400 run around 125 to 135 psi.
The 3700 will run around 150 to 160 psi
The 4000 is the same as the 3700 they both have two thin rings and the only real difference is in
the bore size as far as compression goes.

I have seen the exception posted where someone got up to 175 psi on the 3700 and 4000 models.

I'm done testing saw compression for a while. After about six of them, the fun wore off. :msp_wink: I didn't do all of them, but wanted to get an idea. Stephen, yours saws are really putting out compared to mine.

The full wrap that's on the box of the 2 apart super EZ's is for an EZ. I found that many years ago and just never got around to getting it installed or one of those EZ cleaned up and running yet.

The 400 is pretty clean. I picked it up off eBay a few weeks ago. It came from California.

Thanks for the good info. Sounds like I'll have to grab a set of rings or piston/ring combo. Both sides of the piston are super clean so it should be an easy swap. Still a good runner as is.

Old workaround from Fossil & Todd, as the original 4000 thin rings are unobtainium.

115 isn't real low. A hose on your compression tester could account for some of the pressure. I always use a tube on mine unless it just won't fit. It's been said to not use p/r from Red Barn, though I've never tried. I would do the base gasket delete 1st. Did it to my 3700 and it's up over 150, but honestly I don't think it has a lot more power, just harder to pull over.

Anybody here have a source for the throttle and choke linkage for a 3700? My Craftsman is missing both.
Has anybody tried to fabricate any similar type linkage? I can use the linkage from my Poulan as a template, just not sure what would be the best rod material. Thinking drill rod or similar may work.

Measure the diameter of what you have and head to a hobby shop and get some music wire (piano wire). Hard, springy stuff.

Yea I'm not too worried about it for now. It's a clean saw and piston is clean. It starts right up and runs well too. I'll run it as is and when it's time I'll pull her apart. I suspect for what I do I'll get many years of service as is
