Do your hands feel like you just push mowed for two hours now? I have only had mine running for a few minutes and vibrates the heck out of ya.

Good Job!

Naaa,

He's from Kentucky.
We grow MEN down here who don't pay much attention to a little vibration!!!:hmm3grin2orange:

Igntion Coil

Any of you guys know how to check a coil? What I'm referring to is using a multimeter, not grounding the plug and pulling recoil. I have several coils from the 3400 series saws and would like to see if they are good before installing them. Can it be done?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Id like to know this as well

25da project i finished

well guys,,i have good and bad news. I took the saw back to bob this eve and told him i had something for him. And showed it to him and how i got it running good and that i was there to give it back to him since it was his dads. This is what he told me. he said he has many items of his dads and that the chainsaw would just sit and never be used and for me to keep it and put it to use. He told me and my wife that he would perfer that it be used by me or find a home for the saw with someone that would use it and appreciate it. Guys i really tried several times for him to hang on to it. He shook my hand VERY firmly and thanked me for getting it running the way he remembered it running when his dad used it. I just hope i didn't offend him in anyway wanting him to have it back. Our intensions was good. So i don't know what to do here guys. I can't force him. The only thing i know to do is to find someone on AS that would really want it and would use it and/or finish restoring it by giving it a paint job. I want to respect his wishes to find a good home for it. The reason i say that is i would not use it enough and it would sit more then be used. So any ideas would be very helpful.

I think you did a nice job on that saw. I also believe your story about the owner not wanting it. I would think that you would want to keep it since it was your freinds, but I also seem to see that you don't keep any saw very long.

Don't worry someone will be along shortly begging for that saw. If I already didn't have a couple like that, I know I would.

I would keep it, use it once an awhile. Never know, he may ask if you still have it someday...

Either everyone is hungover or know one knows. Joe and I are curious about how to test these coils.

I got this for n/c and it may be worth every penny.....

When you can't get a spark by sanding the coil and magneto you will want to check your coil with an ohms meter. Next, test to make sure the negative wire is on the surface of the small engine that touches the the magneto and the positive in the spark plug boot is touching the metal. A good coil will read anywhere between 1.5 to 5 ohms. A bad coil will read a lot higher such as 7000. If your coil has spark when it is cold but not when it is hot it may have an intermittent coil. Make sure your coil is cool and has spark. Heat it up with a heat gun or hair dryer and test it again. If there's no spark, my advice to you would be to take it in to the mower shop and get a new one.

Nice Tips Randy, I'll have to give that a try sometime.

I never really bothered with that much though on like a 3400 saw as if they don't spark, then that coil is bad.

Outside of a bad connection thats all there is to the whole ign.

Just want to say that I ran the 306a a bit today, and will be running it more next weekend. I think I fell in love with it today. That saw loves to eat wood, heluva good running saw for sure.

wow!!!

up front i want to thank roncoinc for sending me the coil and flywheel for this saw. To make a story short i traded a guy some hickory for this saw. It was non running and had sit for about 15+ years. He said that it was his fathers and he had passed away 5 years ago. I got it home and checked it over and told my wife that i wanted to fix it up for bob and give it back to him since it was his fathers. So it is done and running. I had to replace the fuel line,,plug,,fuel filter, coil and flywheel. Got it all back together today, tuned it and sharpened the chain,,it was dull. Now it starts right up and runs great. The auto oiler pumps plenty of oil. Except for some of the missing paint it is a new saw again. Here is the final pics and video. The next couple of pics is before. So i am going to put it back in the case and surprise bob with it tonight

I need a carb for a PP365,anyone know what kind they are?:help:

Yes you need a Walbro HDA-49.

That was a common carb on alot of that series. Seems the 2700,2800,3000,3300,3500,3600 Poulan Pro 305,335,336 and 365 all used that same carb. I'm going from memory so I might have one wrong or missed one.

There are useally a few on ebay at any given time.

Poulan sold a bunch of them and for good reason. Very rugged and dependabe as well.

They have kept alot of homes warm for a long time also.

Thanks for your input!

Happy New Year Mark!

I'll be doing some serious felling and bucking with it next weekend, which I'm sure will really run it though it's paces more than a few cookies and some noodles. I find the saw somewhat comparable to a Stihl 041AV. Same class of saws. It pulls harder in my opinion, though. Just a great old saw that I am quite impressed with.

Now all I have to do is find the 306's big brother...Damn CAD.

Yeah if you like the 306 you will really like its big brother.

They feel about the same and run about the same up to a 18-20" bar but after that the 245 feels the same pulling a 28" bar.

I have a couple bigger displacement saws coming my way this week, hope to see what they are capable of. Nothing green, though Mark.

I have never ran a more modern saw bigger than about 60cc. 80cc Macs.

I have no real use for a bigger bar than 20" at this point in time for the work that I'm doing.
