Nik's Poulan Thread

[67 Mustang]

Hello everybody, I recently had the S25DA recommended to me for a top handle saw. I found a saw listed as Craftsman 20/14 model 358.355141. Says it's a good runner. Pics are really poor. Handles and bar are black. Body of saw is not red. It's a
lighter color than that, but can't tell. Can anyone help me identify which Poulan model this is?

That's a Poulan Micro 2.0 equivalent, not a S25.

here is the micro i got in yeserday..

got this one in cleaned it up replaced the carb lines every thing... slapped an old bar and chain on it to tune it i may keep this one! put an old 25da tilston crab on it i had that was in good shape it fires up and barks.... i think if i keep it i will paint the bar black and give it a much better chain!!!sorry ya cant tell how clean it is from the blurry pics..View attachment 201714View attachment 201715

Been trying to get these old junks of mine up and running but not having much luck!
Half of them won't hit a lick, and the ones that will fire sound more like David Bradley's than Poulans.
My chains are all trash, sprockets and clutches worn out, bars bent and pull ropes squeaking.
Half tempted to just leave them at home.
Oh well I guess that's all a guy can expect from a bunch of Poulans!!!

Funny, Sounds like your describing my saws. Its a wonder I can ever get one to run to cut 15 or so cords a year. I sure hope Mark, or somebody brings a few runners. My camera is charging now. I was hoping to get a few pics or vids of some actual running Poulans.:frown:

This one is my cousins. I got it for him about a year ago, good solid runner he loves it...Except that the bar clamp loosens, the bar moves and the chain flies off...after 2 cuts. I tried 2 different bars, and 2 different 5/16" bolts. No difference, so tonight I tried something different. I took a 3"X5/16" carrige bolt and cut it down to about 2". Next I tapped threads out and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Then I mixed up a small batch of JBweld and put it on the threads that will go into the saw. Finally I put (2) 1/2" nuts on the new stud and torqued it down. Hopefully this fixes the problem. I told him none of my S25s had this problem and neither does my Dads. I have had good luck with JBweld holding under much more severe conditions than this.

Joe my first S25CVA that I got back in about 80 had the bar clamp bolt stripped when I got it. I repaired it with a thread insert like the ones they call timezerts now and it held for 25 years.

I'm not sure that the JB weld will not let it turn out but I think you will be fine with that repair that way.

Well Gregg, funny you should say that. I was starting to round up some saws to get ready and got the 71-A fired up after having to prime it a couple times. It finally grumbled around some and started up. It was idleing to high and the adjustment screw wouldnt help it. I found the the throttle rod was hitting the outlet fitting on the manual oiler and keeping the throttle rod from returning far enough to close the throttle all the way.

So being a dumbass in a hurry I put a wrench on the fitting to see if I could turn the oiler in its hole and broke the fitting off the oiler body.

Since I know everyone had fun with the 71-A I really wanted to bring it, especially with the bow setup on it.

So since I dont have another oiler body and since its made of aluminum I decided to make a redneck repair on it that even Billybob, Cleatus and Hershel would appreciate.

Lets just say theres stovepipe wire and JB Weld involved and its not pretty.

But I think it will work.....

While I'm on that subject, what saws do I bring. Any request's?

I was planning on the 4900 since I ran it tonight and it runs awsome!

What else?

The 252 for sure, maybe the Candian 3000, Craftsman 4.2 and 5.2 Lil Jon and maybe the 401.

What else? Maybe the 655? Anyone want to run a Partner P-100 super?

I just picked up a PP336. I need to get a new air filter as the old one has a hole in it and is NLA. Anybody know where there may be a place to find one? Its gonna get a carb kit, hose and it needs an impulse line for sure as the idiots put the vent line to the impulse nipple on the carb. I hope the intake boot is good as they are NLA apparently also. Where exactly does the vent line go? Does it just sit up near the carb? It does have 150+ compression so thats a good thing.

The vent line just sticks up near the carb. Just put a small piece of foam in the end of it to keep junk out of it.

Not sure on the filter, try Chainsawr. They used the same on a bunch of models.

Wow Mark! What saws to bring? What you just said sounds great! I have never run a 655, so that would be high on my list. Glad ya got the 71A fixed up. That was hoot to run. I will definitely wear my muffs this go round, when getting up close and personal with that saw.

Got all sizes of wood, from 30" on down. Thats the biggest I can come up with, unfortunately. I know thats limb size wood to Chris. LOL

Sounds like Mike has a few interesting saws also. That is if he can get them old junks running. I'll probably try a 4000, 203, 245A, Thirty-o-six, 4200, 5200, and maybe a PP380 & a Husky 385xp, if thats allowed..:msp_smile: I know, Woodchuck asked me one time If I ever compared it to a 5200, side by side. I never have. Maybe this will be the time to try em.

I believe the original impulse line was tygon on these correct? Do you think the impulse line kit from a 330/380 would fit without trouble and its rubber too. I am thinking of ordering that instead of the original.
