Likely opened up a stuck ring, would be my guess, day52.
Okay, here are some pictures. Can't find my digital camera, so these were taken with a cellphone camera. (Now, there's a weird idea! I'm still not used to it!)
Anyway, not the best quality, especially the one of the exhaust port, but it's the best I can do for now. The piston is scored, but I don't know how badly, as I have nothing to compare it to. I've never worked on two strokes. If this were a car engine, I'd say it's new piston time.
The rings appear to be quite solidly attached to the piston - no play, no movement. No expansion against the piston wall, either, I'd guess!
