portage and main non pressurised boilers at the empire farm days

Greetings fellow board members,

I saw my first "Portage and Main" outdoor wood boilers at the empire farm days this past august 6 th and I am very impressed with the line they have.

They offer a 25 year warranty with a ten year full warranty for the first ten years of ownership.

They are manufactured in Alberta, Canada and they offer a coal and pellet stoker option-I am little concerned with that as the canadian coal is even softer than eastern bituminous but they have an excellent italian gearbox and motor assembly to move coal in to the burner head and the same gearbox augers out the ashes with a separate shaft driven auger powered by the same gearbox as coal is augured in ashes are augered out.

They offer 4 non pressurised boilers-three with the stoker as an ordered option which I will be doing if I order the third largest unit-may order the biggest one after all but I still have to do a little more research etc.

When the stoker option is ordered they use a lot of firebrick in the burner area which is a great idea even when burning wood with the stoker is removed.

They have a three pass system for capturing all the heat via three heat areas that absorb the heat, first through the bottom passing through a three pipe arrangement filled with water and then the the gasses are passed through to the top and make two passes forward and back before they are blown out the chimney with a forced draft blower.

As long as I have a lot of hot or very warm water I will not have to hear my oil burner especially if I have a lot of good firebrick in the boiler to hold the heat.

The local dealer for these boilers is in St Lawrence County and I will be making a trip there up soon.

So I was wondering if any of you own one of these and are you happy with it?
