Lets talk about it...

Dedicated noodling saw?
Best chain setup?
Bar size?

I use a 272xp, full chisel chain and i dont think it does as well as it could. Wanting to experiment some with a 24" bar and skip chain.

I use the 372 for noodling wearing a 24" bar and it does very well with a sharp chisel chain, full comp. I have heard skip chain works well for noodling but have not found the need to try it.

The bigger saw the better. I use my 066, 25 inch bar, most of the time. I only noodle if I have to. It makes a mess. I use whatever chain is in the package at the stihl dealer. I get the yellow non skip, That's all the thought i care to put into my chains. I noticed a lot of tree service guys use skip, I don't know why, I tried it once on a 461 and hated it, it made me not like the saw.

The surprise noodler of the day was this Olympyk 264 w/20" & safety chain. The double small dogs work great.

Used it for most of this pile.

Pine or fir I think. And keep a 20-30 degree angle so the clutch cover don't clog.

Pay scant attention to the J-red.

I use noodles for kindling also. Id like to find 288 and make it a dedicated noodling saw with ripping chain. One day....

Oooohh nice Olympyk...not too many guys with them here.

One of the reasons I bought the Dolmar 6100. Works great with 20 or 24 in full comp in hard wood.

Dolmar ps 6100 noodling like a boss:

My best noodle saw is the 036 with .325 chain. I find the .325 makes a smaller noodle that is less likely to clog the clutch cover. I noodle with all my saws.

Because of the extra long noodles it creates, I find Red Elm the most difficult to keep from clogging up. Since I went to full skip chain, I feel I get better noodle clearance or discharge. I notice very little change in noodling speed.
