are these called carpenter ants?

anyway they have been doing some serious damage to the trees around here--helps me collect free firewood but I don't want any trees coming down onto my house or vehicles


what can I spray around the trees to get rid of ants or to porevent them from calling a healthy tree home??

should I also be spraying my firewood pile?

We've been using an "ant bait" product called Maxx Force. It is carried back to the nest by adults, fed to the young cuasing genetic defects that are passed on to future generations, effectively destroying the colony. One or two capfuls around the base of the tree is all that's needed.
