Hi all, I'm going to start cutting down about 90 trees that very in diameter from 14 in down to 8 in that are very straight maple trees to build a log cabin out of( I know I've already heard other people tell me from different sites that I could get a lot more money out of that for milled Lumber )but all the trees that I will be taking down are forked and will probably end up breaking over time or getting wind damage . (Plus I'm not looking to make a profit I'm looking to build something off our own land) I own 40 acres and 30 of it is maple trees so I'm only taking out the ones that will be an issue because of them being forked and not a single trunk and it's a very small portion of our property and I can build it for next to nothing because I have Old Barn Foundation Stones I can use for the peers for the sill logs to sit on and I also own a pretty large backhoe / front loader that I can use to dig the barn Stones down below frost level and I will have the cabin sit at least 18 in above the ground and have 3 ft overhangs.
What is a good mixture to treat the logs with after I cut them down and debark them to discourage insects and when is that done before or after stain is applied?
