I agree. Prices of a cord vary in wide range with everyone on here. I'm sure that some of us are looking at $15 a truckload as the deal of a century where others can pass it off. I think it would be a different game if you showed up with your truck..... a triaxle. Then $15 isn't bad. :)

Well firewood here is only 150.00 per cord
but if ya get way more there and showed up
with this hmmmmmmmmm 15 what yas think?:monkey:

Shoot, can't see your pic...quite dark.

HOLY MACKERAL!!!!! Just saw you signature, I've always always always wondered how to make a ° symbol...I hate using *!!!

I have several thoughts on this matter

The 15 dollars to the landowner might be his way of "Meeting you in the middle"
He may not want the liability of anyone running a saw and getting injured on his property. SO he figures if you pay him 15 bucks a load you are showing him a bit of something towards his property liability insurance.
Another note. What difference is you coming in and getting firewood from his tree crop. Or going out and picking a pickup load of ear corn out of his field from the stalks? A timber stand is no different in income than a field of soybeans or standing corn. Those trees purpose in life is to be there to pay the property taxes on the woods land.
You are looking for free firewood to save money and heat your home. He is trying to sell wood to make money and heat his home.
Plus like my dad always said. "If you let them come cut, they will end up cutting ruts, getting stuck, then come knocking on the door at dinnertime expecting me to come pull em out with the tractor."
My advice if it is handy for you. Pay the guy 15 bucks stack the wood tightly. Do not split it there, you can haul more in big chunks than you can splits. How much would you spend in gas driving by his place going on down the road to another spot to cut poplar?

filb972,

Where are you at here in MI?

A cord here on the west side runs around 120-150 bucks, sometimes with delivery. All Maple,Oak,Cherry and well seasoned runs more, usually around 100 bucks a truck load.

The reason I'm asking where you're at, is that if you are local, I could steer you to a couple piles of stacked hardwood takedowns before they get burned.

15 bucks for tops is silly around here.

Stay safe!

Hi, I'm located in mid Michigan (Genesee Co.). A cord on this side brings about 150 split and delivered. I think I was star struck at the sheer amount of premium wood available. I usually go to public land with a permit and gather standing or fallen dead which can be difficult but this place is uphill both ways and there is a creek I would have to build a means to get my tractor across. You guys managed to bring me back to reality:buttkick:. I am going to pass and keep my eye out for some free wood. I have next seasons wood already gathered up in log form and covered so I'm not in a hurry but I'm always looking, gotta stay ahead. Thanks
