Can someone tell me how much oil in ounces I have to mix w/2.5 gallons to get a 32:1 ratio??I usually only mix 1.5 gallons but I need to start bringing 2.5 for now on..Can someone shed a little light on this question for me please.

Thanks Rob.

Somewhere I picked up this little cup that the outside slides in and out of, like a plunger open on top with a base. It has all the ratios and amounts on the side, in metric as well! It is clear plastic and you can see right through it. Set it to what you need, put oil in, dump oil into container, push the plunger thing in and it wipes out all the oil. Nifty little gadget.

The trick for rocky was knowing 128 oz to a gallon, which 99% of US highschool graduates dont know. Of course most people can drink two 64 oz big gulps in a day, but can not imagine drinking a gallon of water a day.

So how do they sell Big Gulps in CA? Gimme a 1.37 liter eh.

Cheers

"knowing 128 oz to a gallon, which 99% of US highschool graduates dont know"

Sad but true. I suspect that a lot of the problem is that practical applications (ie: word problems) are not assigned enough and the kids just don't know (or care) enough to apply the theory to real-world problems themselves. I guess I was just lucky enough to find it all very interesting, while most of my classmates didn't.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those mixing containers I bet I can get one from my local Suzuki dealer...

Thanks Rob.

Thanks Again Brian for the answer I'm sure I could have figured it out on my own but I had a feeling someone here would know off the top of their head.

I think its called a mix-mizer or something like that. 2 bucks, next to the gas cans at wally World.

No need to do any cipherin' with fluid ounces.

If you want to convert from 50:1 to 32:1, simply multiply however many specified gallons by 32/50 (or .64).

Got a bottle of oil sized for mixing with 2½ gallons at 50:1 but want to make it come out to 32:1 instead? Thirty-two divided by fifty times two and one half gallons equals one and six tenths gallons (or one and one third gallons in Canada if you find a pump that [still] dispenses in their special units). If you've got a basic calculator, it would be
32 ÷ 50 × 2.5 =
Of course, you can always avoid the complexity of multiplication and division by just using the ratio they made the stuff for.

Like Doug, I found school interesting. Until I didn't any more. Come time to make my schedule for my senior year I was able to cash in all that previous interest and get out early.

Now look where I'm hanging out...

Stay in school kids. Even if you complete all the requirements early, you'll not be able to get a good job until you're 18 anyway.

I could just edit my last post, but that would be like taking back something I'd said...

It's dawned on me that Rob was already mixing at 30:1 by using 1½ gallons, presumably with a premix jug sized for 2½ gallons at 50:1, but that he needs to take more fuel than that to the job each day (I'd somehow missed that last part).

In that case, using only pre-measured jugs, he should just go ahead and mix the full 2½ gallons with that jug, then throw in an extra jug sized for mixing 1 gallon. The result will be nearly 36:1.

2.5 2.5 2.5 35.7
-------- = ----------- = ----- = ----
2.5 1 0.05 + 0.02 0.07 1
--- + --
50 50

If 32:1 is needed, then multiply 32 by that 0.07, resulting in 2.24 gallons.

So mix 2.24 gallons of gas with one 50:1 jug each for 2½ and 1 gallon and you'll have 2.31 gallons of 32:1 with no oil measuring.
