I have card in hand ready to make the call. HUSKY 338xpt or 338xpt Cali.? I don't live in Califonia, so I can go either way. Is there any benny's the Cali. has over the standard xpt? I realize the Cali. has the 45cc. But can someone give me a clue on the best of the two? I just kind of think down the road the Cali. may come back to haunt me, with the mod. they had to do to sell in California. :Eye::Eye:

Thanks oldwild. I have been contact with them and probably would have jumped at the new Cali. model, but couldn't talk them into giving me the 12" bar and chain instead of the 14". So I done a big surf and came up with 2 different web sights that will sell me the standard 338xpt [ not a Cali. ] for $355.00 including shipping. This is what provoked me to start this post.
As my neighbors call me, THE TREE DUDE

Go for the 338xpt (non-Cali)...you won't be disappointed. I agree with oldwild...great place that Bailey's. I get 99.9% of my saw stuff there (oils, bars, chains, tools, ect., ect., ect.)

YA, I pulled there site up a couple times before. I cannot come up with a price list on it. I will call before I buy. I appreciate your help in finding dealers, but that is't really the problem I'm having. I just looking for someone to tell me in layman's terms, what the difference is between the two and whether one is actually better or not.

njforestfire, this is the first saw I am going to buy over the net. My local dealer for some 15 yrs. or so, just will not stock them. I was after him clear back in Nov. Went back in last week, and he did finally get a 334 in. I think the problem is he is still setting on a bunch of old stock 335xpt. When I brought it to his attention about the 338's last Nov. he played it off like I shouldn't know anything about them. Grabed his goat when I mentioned the Cali. saw, he passed it off as California junk hanging on it. He is a very likable guy an a decent machanic. But he sure has me wondering.

The difference between the 49 state model and the cali special is displacement. As I understand it the regulations are stiffer on smaller saws ans Husky had to bump the displacement to get around the regs. As long as the saw doesn't say "E-tech" on it there will be no catalytic converter.

I suggest if not for climbing 365 HUSKY will do nice job on ground if climbing
STHIL 200

TREEWRK, I have not run the 200, but I have handled it. It did feel well balanced. I just can't get by that concrete block look that they have. I have seen difficult cuts to where the narrower Husky made me grumble. "I am on the last of 5 ,335xpt" I have a Jonsered's 2171 with a 20" bar and a Husky 395xp 32" to complete the arsonal, yes I do have 1 Stihl, their PRO pole saw.
sedanman; I never liked a catalytic converter when they started putting them on cars, so with that I'm going to steer away from them on my saws as long as I can.
Thanks for all your help, Ron
