Half of the new retail price if the saw is in good to great shape seems to be expected and accepted as fair for a starting point. Adjustments made for the appropriate reasons. Grade the saw fairly and as exacting as possible. Trade value is less than private sale by usually at least a third if not half. These are some general "rules" that I have noticed around here.

Very true. I guess I was just put out that instead of replying privately back, he made a public thread as a kind of "Hey, look how wrong you are" tone to it.

In hindsite, it was probably a bit jumpy and irritable on my part... in fact tomorrow Ill think myself of a bit of a jackass.
