How about some opinions concerning the power of the earlier Husky 350's before they went to the capped port cylinder that is used on the current models. I'm pretty sure the published specs haven't changed. ( And Sawtroll is checking right now!) I put together a couple saws from the dead saw pile and one of them is a 350 with the earlier cylinder and it just rips. Seems to easily have more power than the newer ones.

So, does anyone who actually has some experience with both of them feel there is a noticable difference in the power?

When did they change? Mine is 3plus years old, and it rips!! Been very happy with that saw!
Andy

The newer EPA ones have the 51.7 cc 353 engine, downrated to the same power as the older 49.4 cc 350s.

I suspect the larger engine has more low end torque, but it is really only a guess.......:biggrinbounce2:

I think the new one's with the cat mufflers are about the same as the old ones without...

They both run better with a muffler mod, but there is more potential in the later 350 or 353 models

Andy, I think it was for the 2003 model year. Pretty much the same time that the 351 became the 353. The 2002 catelog showed both the older 350 and the 351. You can just take a look at the sides of your cylinder and see which one you have. The capped ports would indicate the newer one.

Funny, thats the only saw I own that's stock, and it seems to run the best :hmm3grin2orange: (for what it is)
And it's the old style.

The middle ones....old model with new cylinder and not cat muffler were really runners..

Seems husky does wierd things when switching/upgrading models. I have been seeing lots of parts switcheroos between models....

It's not surprising that the power rating is unchanged, is it? As we have seen with some other models, they don't even change the rating when they put a cat muffler on.

Spike, Do you know what all years they made the 351? Seems others know very little about it..

mine is an 02 model, but it is the 44mm 49.cc open ported cylinder...Well, it was. it now has a highly modded 346 top end on it.

I'll check tomorrow Steve. It looks like 2002 was the last year for the 351, but I'm not sure when it was introduced.

You are also very right about strange happenings with the parts. I clearly remember that the last batch of 351's we got back then came through with the newer cylinder, so they were actually 353's.

So for all I know, I have a 350 badged saw with a 353 cyl. on it? Thats got to be a bear when it comes to finding parts!!! Oh yea!!!!! It comes to me now!!! That is why there are so many serial number breaks on the 262 I had!!!
Jeez.........

Not really...I think all replcement p/c are the 353 variety...(45mm bore and closed port vs the 44mm open port..

Take the top cover off and look at the cylinder by the flywheel. Does it look like your 346, or does it have a square cap with 4 torx screws on it?

If it has the cap, it is the newer one like Spike said (45mm). the 350's never had a cat muffler to the best of my knowledge...

The 353 replaced the 351 late 2002, while the 350 change happened last year (2005).........;)

I think the 350's changed earlier here; about the same time as the 351/353. Then again, I'm not really that sure. Another thing I have to look into tomorrow.

Spike, do you know when they discontinued the 2149? Was it 02 also? I have seen them with the newer 45mm (353) topends also. These are like the 351's, as I have seen them both ways.

I believe they discontinued the 2149 when the 2152 replaced it (late 2002).......

...as with the 351 vs 353....
