Why do old saws sound so much meaner than new ones I've gutted new saws and they sound nothing like old homies or other vintage saws

Most of the older pro saws had very aggressive porting from the factory and mufflers were not restricted at all if not just a strait pipe, plus RPM were much lower, listen to the sound of a big block V8 vs a small block V12, little pistons revving really fast vs. big pistons revving slower give a different sound.

Just do what I do.....................

Step 1) Use the search funtion to find leeha's videos

Step 2) Copy and upload to my Ipod (or similar music player)

Step 3) Plug Ipod (or equivalent) into my Work Tunes

Step 4) Play sweet music from large cc muscle saws while operating modern high-revving saws

Step 5) Repeat step 4 when switching from saw to saw

Enjoy !! :msp_biggrin:

044 Stihl has a 70cc and this Monkey Ward saw has 129-130cc there is going to be a bigger note!

Yep, Homelites in the book, but they got it right in the movie. :hmm3grin2orange:

Heck Randy when the filmed that movie the Homelites were in the woods being used. They used McCullochs because they were in the saw shop because they would not start and guys bought Homelites:wink2::wink2:

A friend recently gave me a D65 Clinton (didn't want it, oughta sell it) in exchange for doctoring up some basket-case Sthils. I tinkered the old Clinton up, rebuilt the big Tilly HL carb (first one for me), and made it run this morning. You know, just because.

I was kinda dreading it, though, since I only have ear plugs and really need to get some proper ear muffins. I monkeyed with the ol' Clinton long enough to tune it and just couldn't take it any more. My ears are still bleeding.

Not quite true with many. Stihl 090. Homelite 750,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sachs Dolmar 153, 166.

McCulloch 10-Series...

There you go Jim.

You're right Randy. Nobody'd believe that scene if he'd been using a Homelite 2100-S instead of that McCulloch CP-125....because the Homelite wouldn't have crapped out.:D

This second vid was shot before I replaced the FW side crank seal (had just replaced the PTO side). It was still a bit 'off'.........and sounds like it. All better now. Gave the saw back to it's owner before another vid could be shot...

Thanks for the video. I kind of wondered how a BDC carburetor woud fit under a Mac 125 filter cover.
