I've never saw that movie before. What a scene.

That was the first time I seen it too. Couldn't help but think, gee, why didn't they rip out the fuel line after the saw died. The swimmer could've used it as a snorkel. Didn't have to drown!
 
I think it has to do with the horizontal cylindres vs the vertical cylinders...
On my old Stihl 050, the sound is just amazing....
 
I disagree about cylinder orientation, but generally agree on the reeds part although every rule needs an exception and big-banger Dollys and 288s have that same lumpy sound to them without the reeds. Displacement, high compression, and port timing are the big-3 to get the noise.
