I hope I have this in the right area- I was cleaning out my grandfathers house this weekend and found a very cool looking tool box, I thought. It turns out it was his chainsaw case. It is made by Sears, I'm guessing early to mid 60s. The case looks like a tool box, but has dividers spotwelded into for various items. It has stickers for oil mix ratio and has the original metal one gallon gas can and spout. I Can add more pics later. I'm really curious if anyone knows anything about this unit. I can find info on the saw, but not the case. I thought the case was cool so I set it aside. I'm wondering if anyone has seen one before/ knows what the value may be.

If my grandfather bought it new 50 years ago, it'd be worth about $2000 to me. If your grandfather bought it brand new 50 years ago, it'd be worth about $100 to me.

I can do both! Thank you

And for more clarity- it's my wife's grandfather, so I'm not looking for $2000. AND, everyone in her family is terrified of it because of the 10" scar in the middle of his chest from when it kicked back and cut his chest open. It hasn't been run since, that was early 80s as the story goes. Just looking for a real $

Research it on here and find what model it was or what company made it for craftsman. Then if you want to sell it put it on eBay. There's collectors out there for everything and you're talking to a limited audience here... We all watch eBay.

I'm pretty sure that's a Roper saw (D44 or D49). These aren't worth much- runners are usually ~$50, But considering the condition, and the case and sundries, it might be worth $225-300 to the right person.

According to the tag/ Sears info it is a Roper saw. That was the easy part as there is a ton of info on them. It was the case and pieces that had me stumped as I can't find anything on it.

Thank you for all the info, I really appreciate the help!

He probably made that box out of an old Craftsman carpenters tool box. If he had a friend who was a tinknocker or a body shop guy he could spot weld that any which way. Its a cool looking saw but like mentioned above not worth a whole lot. I'd keep the box, and may be ask one of the other relatives if they wanted to hang it from the ceiling of The Man Cave.
