Yep, I have seen a many plastic junk saws too, but at least they are not as heavy to tote to the scrap pile, They make gun barrels out of a form of plastic, bet some wheels could be made too

It won't be long.

You can't compare a low quality saw made of plastic to a high quality saw that is constructed of magnesium. The difference there is mostly the build quality, not the material. Comparing saws of equal build quality, there is little difference in durability, but a large difference in weight. Plastic can also take a lot more rolling around in a truck bed without looking as beat. Magnesium saws soon have little paint left from that treatment, while plastic saws have some scratches. Plastic also bends much easier than magnesium, which tends to crack, rather than bend.

bug, you might wish to be a little more specific as to the target of your verbal attacks so innocent bystanders do not take offense.

like i said i do not think plastic is bad but the reason sthil and husky use plastic is for cost not strength. i have saws 30 years old with paint in good shape. fact is old sp 125s 090,s and other big saws were used day in day out and are stiil here do you think 088 or 3120 used day in day out will be here in 30 years with plastic. as for weight plastic is lighter but not as much as alot of people clame. i have 60cc saws made of mag and of plastic do not feel much diffrence . some people like tapes some like cds .cds are more derable but scrach alot easer .just because it is the latest fad does not mean it is better.

I'm sorry.
I appologize.

Plastic is to chainsaws - is what artificial insemination is to a perfectly good hard-on.

How's that?

i agree with you because i can buy them alot cheper know that most do not want them.so i hope people keep saying they are no good it helps me out thanks.

I've got a barn full of old homies and a few McC's made of magnesium. Magnesium cracks, breaks and loses it's paint. Plastic cracks, and fades. My oldest plastic saw is a Jonsered 625 with a crack in the throttle grip borne of a fall off a load of firewood. I saw magnesium saws take the same header in my youth and come out worse.

When a saw rides the road, it's going to get hurt, but I'm a fan of the newest plastics.

What gets me is that most of the guys on here agree that the new plastic is cheaper, more durable, and lighter than magnesium, which leads to higher performance and greater return per invested dollar. But they "don't like them 'cause they're sissified." lol Will ignorance ever cease?

It doesnt matter so much to me if the plastic lightweight saw lasts as long when im using it

It matters that I last longer by using it

What he said!!!

i can agree with that if you are making a living running a chainsaw but that was not what was asked. some people do not like mag saws and some do not like plastic . Both are good. When some people say bad things about old saws you wonder if they have ever ran one that is restored to new or trying to compare a junkyard or parts saw to a new one from a dealer. three saws seting next to eachother sxl 925 046 385xp witch one is heaver, if all are new witch one will perform better.,
