Hello all, I have an old whisper [Ashplund?] chipper that I would like to get some information. The unit has a Ford 330 V8 engine belted to a 12 inch chipper box. Does anyone know what the RPM of the drum should be? The way it is now has the engine pulley larger than the drum pulley which seems to be backward. I would think that the engine should spin faster than the the drum to put the engine in the RPM range to make the most horse power [3500 to 4000] or the torque range of 1800-2000 RPM. Either way, the ratio that the belts are now would spin the drum way too fast. I got the chipper this way and would like to set it up correctly. It looks like someone put a 12 inch box in place of a 16 inch as there are new mounts welded and things changed to make it work.
