Ever notice how some older saws had a lot less muffler restriction than we now have.

Take a look at the exhausting capabilities this muffler had on the 038.

how many ports does that muffler have? mine had a 2 port rear half, and the cover also had an exhaust port on it too.

It is actually an 038 AV Magnum, I guess that one of the ways Stihl would obtain max power output out of these units. Obviously porting and exhaust breathing is really not a new concept.

breathing is a new concept to the guys that want to restrict us in our performance. I say we restrict their breathing and see how they perform lol

That's what the muffler on my 034 super and my 064 look like. On the 34 there's a hole with a screen and a baffle under it so it's mainly a heat shield I think. On the 64 there's a plate under it with some holes about the same size, may have been drilled there by a previous owner. Have to pull it apart and see!
