I stopped by a tree service in my area and started chatting with an old guy that I knew was their climber. I had seen him climb before and he gets around the tree, I thought he was in his 50's or maybe 60's and in great shape. Well, according to him, he has been climbing since he was 12 and that was in ....... 1939!!!! he is 84 and still climbs!!! I can't verify his age but he has nothing to gain by lying to me about it. So, if it is true that is most impressive!

Good for him, I hope I'm still climbing at his age.

X2,, Hell,, I hope I'm still walking at that age :) Seriously though if this guy is still climbing in his mid 80's thats not only impressive but by far the oldest climber I have heard of

Not sure but a couple regulars on this forum may have him beat. TreeVet started out with a model T for a chip truck and trailer full of beavers for a chipper and I think ropensaddle was using a horse and buggy when he got started.

nah vets barely a sexagenarian; we got decades to go til 84...not sure about that age either; maybe alzheimers caused him to forget when he was born...i climbed with a septagenarian once and he was good tho.

with the wraptor the prospects improve immensely

That guy gives me hope...

I just turned 64 on Tuesday and worked two smaller jobs to celebrate.

Another two decades of doing tree work is something I look forward to, now that would be an accomplishment!

I am only 40, tree work has kept me in real good shape, real good!Got the whole 8 pack thing going on! I love running into people who I went to school with or grew up with and see how they look now! They are always giving me hell (because they are big and fat!) they always ask me if I live at a gym, nope! I work out, out side! All day, everyday! I could see a guy, who takes care of himself, still getting after it at 84!I hope that I live to 84! Let alone still climb! My F-I-L is 72, he loves coming out on the job. He will run a saw and split wood all day! We have a massive garden that he works everyday, although he has never been in the air, it is not uncommon for him to show up the ground guys on a hot day! They have to stop and slam water, he just keeps going! All the guys love it when he pops up! They know he will jump right in and give a hand! Tree work can age ya and keep ya young at the same time!

as much as you guys get on him, aerial arborist is the oldest climber i know personally. And ive seen him climb, still does just fine, not slow or weak, and has experience to go around, the days ive worked for him gave me hope that i can climb in my 60s

My mentor is 50 this year still climbs everyday, plus is the most bad ass climber i know, fastest, safest, and most efficient i have yet to see, and ive worked with a lot younger than him with plenty of experience and no1 can compare. Maybe its the lack of equipment is what makes these guys good, no bucket and no crane i know since ive been working with the crane how much easier it is so without one for 25 years would make you a bad mofo

I am a bit younger then you, but my father is the same, goes like heck, we have to slow him down! I know a guy that still climbs in my area (retired hydro guy) and he is 80 and in great shape! I wish I am still doing it as well! Hats off to him!
