One piece of equipment to keep.

If I were to be responsible for repopulating the earth, there's one piece of equipment that comes to mind...

But seriously, probably a tomahawk. A tool and a weapon.

A number of years ago, I had to go to a touchy-feely business retreat. The facilitators always have lame icebreakers for the begining. This time, it was the question: Share one thing about you that your colleagues might not know. Most of the answers were, "I love my black lab," "I like to ski."

There was a weird kind of silence when I piped in, "I can hit red on the ace of hearts with a tomahawk from 20 paces." Anyone who's into axe throwing knows that that's not too impressive, but it's not a skill one finds too often these days.

you wouldn't want to take a knife to a gun fight now would you? and it makes sense...
You mean kinda like this.

Nostalgia, I guess.....

Well yes and no, its worth a great deal because of the lost art of smithing
a fine blade. The heating and cooling of the James Black bowie was good
and if Bowie liked it I would too. I have attended the refurbished blacksmith
shop here in Ar and his special tempering has been lost. The blades are twice the quality of mass produced knives of any make.

A Gerber LMF II knife. Does everything but change the oil in the truck.....
or now that I think about it, maybe a SOG multitool, it'll change the oil in the truck.

I have the sog pretty good but will if fiend off bear? nah didn't think so!
I have a home made strait blade and an old buck119 for that, a strait blade
is much better than my uncle henry bear paw or any lock blade jmo.

I've always thought the best way to fend off a bear is to leave, very rapidly, in the opposite direction of his approach, all the while laying down a thick layer of a slick and very smelly substance to slow his advance.

I'm thinking my Gerber Brush Thinner. Much like a machete, very tough and stays very sharp, lightweight, cuts 2inch green branches like butter. Can do a lot with that.

My one piece of equipment would be the machete that I got from Uncle Henry.

Thought ya would like that lol, truth is running is never a good
defense with any bear. Black bear put up a fight try to look big as you can. Griz play dead or try to back up slow but never run and trigger their predatory trigger. I have seen at least fifteen bears in the wilds of Ar only one had me worried but I knocked an arrow and hollered and looked as big as I could and he finally turned from his dead run toward me. I thought at first he was charging me but in fact was just running from either, another hunter or? This bear was near 700 pounds the biggest I have personally seen.

Too funny! I had a similar thing happen to me except I had a 7x57mm in my hands. My Brother went around the out side of a big Poplar stand to to chase me A white tail I could hear this thing coming for a 100yds it stopped ten yards in front of me sniffing and woofing So I yelled at him shouldn't you be sleeping as it was late November. It was private property so I could have shot him without a bear tag especially since that Rancher had problems with bears tearing apart his bee hives.
