Too funny! I had a similar thing happen to me except I had a 7x57mm in my hands. My Brother went around the out side of a big Poplar stand to to chase me A white tail I could hear this thing coming for a 100yds it stopped ten yards in front of me sniffing and woofing So I yelled at him shouldn't you be sleeping as it was late November. It was private property so I could have shot him without a bear tag especially since that Rancher had problems with bears tearing apart his bee hives.
UH! Another underwear change for me.

I can't believe that coming from ya still sawing, surely you have had some experiance with bears in Ar? Of course it took me many years of hunting the remote mountains to see my first! The first as well as all but the one mentioned hauled azz and I mean fast. I have walked up on many more in total darkness that hauled too I could not see them but no mistaking a jumped bear. They will give ya the wooleys with stick and string in the dark for sure:jawdrop:
The scariest I have ever been hunting was; leaving a stand site and had several large hogs between me and the truck. They did not seem scared and matter of fact seemed interested in my presence.

Actually i have never seen a bear in the wild. We hunt down south ar and there is not many seen if any. Seen all the other critters just no bears. I went bear hunting once in clinton, We seen plenty of sign but no bear. I wouldn't be too scared if i seen one if i had a gun. Now if all i had was a crossbow or bow, Then i would worry.LOl

If you want to see a bear go to the white river refuge near

Ethel, get out of the truck and walk quietly for say 300 yards

you should be seeing one any second. Thing is no can kill, they

are off limits there but are over stocked and a little thick.

I bow hunt even there, I am not going to end up bear dung

because I am prepared, I always carry my knife and usually

have on thick clothing! It would be worth your trip to see

your first bear! Oh yeah, it is cool Daniel Boones and Davy

Crockett's favorite hangout!

they put on leathers and entered the den with a knife and thought any
other way was not sporting!
